As some may recall, he did mornings on 92.7 during the last couple of years of the Classic Rock "Eagle."

Sounds to me like another blow to WTPA, how much longer can that station survive?? Weak signal, losing there best on air personalities.

Nahhhhh. Tpa doing just fine. Billing is good.
Air staff are pro's and Pat and I are committed
to the format. While I wish Randy well in his new
endeavor, Gone are the days where a personality defines
a radio station. Losing Stern did not kill the X, and
Randy leaving will not be problematic for TPA.
Besides you all speculated we'd change the format anyway....
We didn't.

Randy didn't move to Siberia. If anything, he'd be easier to hear. He's not being run through a Heathkit transmitter anymore.

Your a riot. TPA's ERP is over double what KZF is.
And our Transmitter and tower are practically new.
Study up youngun'

ERP is just a function of the tower height above average terrain. Taller towers utilize lower power and usually have the advantage. The overall coverage on paper is the same. The WKZF tower and transmitter are also only a few years old.

Yup, For a pea shooter sure are an awful lot of people who want to work here.
Better yet...No problem sellin' time.

Within the same class of stations, (in this case, Class A), stations like KZF with a higher height above average terrain and thus lower power will cover a greater area, but with a weaker signal. Stations like TPA with a lower tower height, and thus more transmitter power, won't go as far but within their coverage area will have a stronger signal and penetrate buildings better. Its a tradeoff with advantages and disadvantages of either configuration.
