RANDY TURNER

I just wanted to post quickly that the ol' Ran Man Turnip has a really dull show on WBPM!!!

If you ever tune in you'll see what I mean. You can only stomach about 240 Seconds of it.

Thank goodness for the Morning Team...

Does anyone here think Randy Turnover is a good Jock? I think what really bothers me is all that old school jibber jabber...

If you ever listen to the Morning show, Jack and Andre make fun of the fact that he calls people neighbor and they play Mr. Rogers music

over it. Its so funny I have to make sure I dont wet myself..Why is Turnover so weird?

Just by reading your post, dude, i'm figuring one of two things:

1) that you either got some "sour grapes" with Randy Turner, or....

2) that you're a "plant" sent by Jack and Andre ;)

Me personally, as a student of and a writer about radio for over 25 years, I think it is very sweet :-* that a radio DJ calls people "neighbor" and plays Mr. Rogers' music...but that's just my opinion....8)

Andrea

Referring to listeners as neighbors is not an original method of communicating
and making people feel welcome. What's the big deal if that's his preference?
I've never heard him or his morning show and can't imagine why they
would poke fun at their boss, so it must not be intended to insult him
unless they have plans for departure.

"old school Jibber jabber"?
That's pretty good. I always thought of Ran-Man's on air style of excessive, breathless patter as the "Tower of Babble".

Anyway, here's a link to a photo on the 'BPM web site:
http://www.wbpmfm.com/gallery/disp_img.php?id_img=2100
It shows Ran-Man pattering on endlessly live from last week's Dutchess County Fair, surrounded by his adoring fans....NOT (...it's really like they are trying hard to ignore him, or just do not know or care that he's there.)

If you look to the right of the ran-man you will see a remarkable likeness of his holy highness....

Guess its lonely at the top....

I don't listen to this show in the afternoons, but the one show that Randy hosted every Saturday is the "Music Blimp". Great show and it's a lot of fun. I posted every aircheck from the "Music Blimp" from every Saturday night, and he sounds good, it's got some good New Wave 80's music, the ones I grew up with.

I hope Randy still going strong with the "Music Blimp" show. I have all of the airchecks from the "Music Blimp" that I posted on a different radio message boards, but it's very good. ;D

Randy Turner is a very good DJ. I like the Randy Turner show alot. I have on the Randy Turner show all the time. In fact WBPM is a very good station thanks to Randy Turner. Jack Hmammer and Andre are very good in the morning. JJ Carter is a very good mid-day DJ. JJ Carter sound like he should be in a big market. Nice guy I have spoken with hime! Randy Turner is a very good PD and after noon host. The news updates on Randy Turners show are good too.

Randy Turner before coming to Poughkeepsie worked at Long Island radio stations, I believe Randy worked at Country 740, 98.3 WKJY FM.
I thought Randy sounded good on those stations.

Randy is a decent small market DJ . Sometimes he sounds like a big market wannabe but I don’t understand all the bashing that goes on this board . He is not the worst jock in the Hudson valley but you wouldn’t know that reading these posts .He draws more criticism that anyone in the Hudson Valley for no good reason. Many air personalities have big egos ,it goes with the job .

You can't be serious with that argument.
There are plenty of good people still working in radio and doing it very well.
Ego driven attitudes are a choice not a job requirement.

Yah, metal, the ego should be checked at the door. Turner's is so big it encompassses both the 914 845 area codes. We had 92.9 on at the shop yesterday; enjoyable to listen to until Turner gets on with his Rollin' bones show. Starts out with a lame *ss studio group singing "Rollin with the ran-man", which is supposed to sound like "Rollin' on the river", CCR...ok, that would be ok at the beginning of the show, but he plays it at the top of every hour. Listening to the show is like watching Elaine on Seinfeld dance. Uncomfortable......Yeah I know, I can turn the dial.....

No excuse for repitition, no excuse for egos.....fire away....

I do not think any other single individual has generated as much activity/commentary on this board over the years as Randy Turner. And it seems to me it can all be divided into one of three camps:
1. Those who only know of Randy from hearing him on the air, and think he's OK
2. Those who only know of Randy from hearing him on the air, and do not like him
3. Those who've met and know him, all of whom really do not like the guy.

My 2 cents on this: If you take a job that is so 'in the public' there will be people who love you and people who hate you. You're in the spotlight and it comes with the territory. That being said, Randy does himself no favors by acting the way he does. He needs to remind himself 'I am NOT performing brain surgery. This is radio. No One will die if I give away an extra window sticker.'

Jack & Andre do make fun of him on their show, but I think it's just that - fun. I've never heard them say anything really mean. And I'm sure there are people who might not like them...again, when you put yourself in the public spotlight, you have to take the good with the bad.

I have never really listenerd to any of Turner's shows, but some here seem to be making too much of the morning team making fun of him. This is old radio schtick that has been done for th epast 30 years: Ripping on the PD. If done right it works, but it's far from original (which sums up the vast majority of HV radio anyway).

Turnip's ego is second only to the WRWD morning fruit cake.

if you guys even knew of the half of that 'wrwd morning fruit cake!'

the problem with turnips show is simple: he's voice tracked 95% of the time. and it shows!!!! when it started to get to the point that i was vt'd more than i was live, that's when i got out of the business ... about 4 years ago!!!

as far as turnip goes: he's a decent guy. i didn't agree with his decisions 100% of the time, but he was still decent to his workers. if i were to ever get back in radio, i'd work for him again.
