Ranger broadcast question

Have the Rangers named a replacement for Josh Lewin?

The reason I ask is because I haven't seen anything, and I'm stabbing at thin air here, but with Scott Franzke still under contract with the Phillies, it's making me wonder if the lengthy process isn't suggesting that Franzke isn't trying to get out of his contract so he can return to Dallas, where he grew up.

Thanks.

Nope, not a word yet. Curious to see if Barry Horn has some kind of word on this in his Saturday column. I have checked his blog but he doesn't blog with anything close to the frequency he used to.

I thought it was pretty much understood that Dave Barnett will slide over from radio to TV. I reckon that's not official yet, though.

In addition to posting the question here, I e mailed Barry Horn as well, and he was kind enough to reply.
He indicated he'd been told Scott is not in the mix.

I thought the team had already stated that Barnett would stay with Nadel on the radio... Think it was mentioned during the switch to 103.3.

Guess that could still change, though.

I will mis Josh I liked him on the broadcasts. I liked the personality contrast between him and TAG.

I only like Busby or Barnett as a fill-in.

How about demoting TAG and have the original Hardline do it. Rhyner, Hammer, Corby, and Followil or however his name is spelled? :D

I hated Josh at first but he grew on me. I enjoyed his non baseball banter. With that being said sometimes it seemed he would go so far off topic that he would forget he was calling a baseball game. That was annoying. I really hope Busby gets the job. He is familiar voice and Tom and him have great chemistry.

Probably because the DMN won't let him bust on the Ticket anymore.

Probably because he gets paid by the word.

"The Dallas Morning News" is about as stingy with reporters or bloggers as radio is with its people.

In the 1970's, I made more at WKY in Oklahoma City than I did in the 1980's as a newspaper reporter for "The Daily Oklahoman", the largest newspaper in Oklahoma.

Of course, I made more at WKY than I ever did at any of the traffic services, and my wife and I paid $90 a MONTH for a one-bedroom apartment, all bills paid.

Different time, different place.

If going off topic bugs you, you should have heard Phil Rizzuto, the former Yankees shortstop and later broadcaster, on Yankees broadcasts.

Rizzuto would sometimes completely forget about the game talking about recipes for Italian food someone had sent, his relatives, the weather, etc.

Barnett is fine on football and basketball.

On baseball, I guess because of the often slow pace, he thinks he must act bored ... or sound bored ... or something.

It is awful.

The Rangers, other than Jon Miller, have never had a top-flight announcer.

And don't mention Bill Mercer. He may have been a nice guy, but he sounded like a Triple-A announcer.

Agreed, Jon Miller is in a league of his own. He only was here a year or two.

But but please, don't desecrate the memory of Mark Holtz.

I'm the one that started the thread, so done because I'm a Phillies fan, feeling fortunate to have had Scott Franzke capably fill Harry Kalas's role as much as a successor can, and wondered if we were losing him. The reason I mention that is I'm distanced as a transplant, and not a Rangers fan, and I must say that while its just opinion, and therefore inarguable, denying Mark Holtz as a less than great announcer strikes me as a truly incredible opinion. I respect Eric Nadel's resume, I just don't care for him, but Holtz, to me is in any discussion of baseball's premiere voices. I mention Nadel because he seems well thought of locally, and of course, like Holtz has had long term experience.
