Rangers on the Fan

Hey can anyone explain (absent all the obvious jokes about how much the station sucks) why the Rangers broadcast (mainly) has spans when the voices slow down and speed up? The first time I heard it I thought Dave Barnett was drunk, but then when I heard Eric Nadel speak it was the same thing. It will go like that for a few minutes then they'll take a break or something and it seems to catch back up and everything sounds normal. I don't and never have worked in radio, so I can't begin to venture a guess as to why its happening, but this is something that's bothering me...just wondering if anyone can lend an explanation.

Only thing I can think of is the delay. It is set to zero on home games but when the game ends it has to be ramped up to whatever their normal settings might be...15, 20, 30 seconds. Does it happen more than once or twice a game? If it only happens twice a game that would be my guess as it is ramped down at the start and up at the end of the broadcast.

Maybe they're both drunk.

It's Gavin's fault. ;D

There is no elimination of delay, as that would screw up the synchronization of the analog KRLD-FM signal and the KRLD-FM HD signal. This sounds more like a technical problem of some sort. I don't know exactly what they use to feed the game audio from the ballpark to KRLD, but I have worked with some codecs in my day and have seen all sorts of bizzare behaivor by the equipment.

This isn't new stuff, at least not at 105.3. It used to happen quite a bit on a certain show, which shall remain nameless, when his intro and bumper music would come on. It would slow way down and then go back to normal speed.
