[Rant] Regular TV sucks!!

I tried to watch "Sleepaway Camp 2" and 3 this morning on CHILL and its not even worth it!!

1) Letterbox

2) THEY ONLY PLAY 9 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE THEN 8 MINUTES OF GARBAGE ALL THRU IT!!!!! (9 mins then 8 mins worth of ads, etc)

Why are there so many commercials?? ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.....

I watched it but i had a VCR movie i was watching during the spam on CHILL.....

That's a different perspective than I have. I just dumped DirecTV after many years due primarily to the number of commercials and promo's (usually the same ones over and over and over). Well, that and I only watch 4-5 services out of the 200 I subscribed to. Junk.

After coming back to regular OTA TV this past week I find:

1. I am watching much less TV than I used to.
2. Daytime is a waste of time.
3. Commercials are generally less offensive than the cable variety, and there is more variety.
4. I understand why NBC is failing.

Actually, I've given some thought to doing that too - particularly given that we're in a market that has WCIU and it's MeTV and MeToo subs. However, I enjoy too many things on History, Discovery, Science and Nat Geo. Even TBS gets some play here. Most nights, I find that my viewing is skewed toward cable-only channels. Not premiums, but those listed above. It's also nice to have the Weather Channel, Fox News and CNN available when you want them. Though the Weather Channel probably only features 15 minutes of live weather an hour now. The rest are ads, promos and 12 minutes of your local forecast (which is fine).

Agreed that you pay an awful lot to watch a select few channels and agreed about the lack of value in that. But I just don't know that I can kick the addiction......

I posted a message on thier site voiceing my disapproval and they deleted it ;D (Cant stand the truth being posted)

I agree on that one. They cancel Without a trace, My Name is Earl, According to Jim, But keep doing these stupid reality shows ,just like VH-1 and MTV that has nothing to do with MUSIC.

Reality shows are cheaper to produce and generate ratings; that’s why there are so many of them on both commercial and cable stations.

With the exception of a few shows, most programs on TV today just plain SUCK!

Wait, "According to Jim" SHOULD have been cancelled. A long, long time ago. It was The Show That Wouldn't Die.

Let me add "Pushing Daisies", "Privileged", "Life on Mars" and "Everybody Hates Chris" to the list of what shouldn't have been cancelled. "Chuck" got a reprieve but who knows how long that will last.

"Friday Night Lights", "30 Rock" and "Ugly Betty" are still around. "Big Bang Theory" continues to succeed. And "Two and a Half Men" isn't going anywhere. And I suppose Fox's animated comedies count as quality, the exception being "Sit Down and Shut Up", which did.

There are other quality shows but I don't watch them. "90210" and "Smallville" are borderline, though both have potential. I'm not sure where "Don't Forget the Lyrics" falls. "Million Dollar Password" is pretty good.

And then there are the guilty pleasures "Howie Do It" (is that coming back?) and "America's Funniest Home Videos", and NBC's "Most Outrageous" specials. I won't comment on their quality. I just find them quite entertaining.

Smallville isn't borderline...it's been flatlined for years. The show started to go down hill after it's second or maybe third season.

The only reason the CW keeps that program on is because it still attracts a younger audience; not much of one, but what else does that network have to offer? Vampires appear to be the next trend on TV.

Okay,

What was Nacho Libre doing on Cartoon Network last night? While Jack Black's humor may be cartoonish, I just can't see why this movie was on Cartoon Network. That's like putting Star Wars on MTV.

The orphans WERE watching a cartoon on TV. ;)

Regardless of where it aired, that was a good movie.

I'm a member of the CW message board for that show. Opinions are all over the place. You've got people who say the quality returned this season. Others say the show got worse. One reason is the show lost its two best actors when John Glover and Michael Rosenbaum left. Or because the show's trying to be "Lois and Clark", Sorry, I liked that show and I like it when the show does that kind of plot. Which reminds me: I need to add "Desperate Housewives" to the list of quality shows I watch.

Others have given up on the show. Still others say they have but continue to rant on the show's board. You've got people who say it's no good without Lana. I liked sweet Lana but I have to admit they've done some quality writing lately for her character, and she has delivered.

"Samantha Who" and "Better Off Ted" are quality shows but I can't remember whether they are coming back. They should. Also "Kings", although I personally don't find it entertaining. Sometimes one needs to be challenged.

No, those 2 aren't coming back.

I thought Better Off Ted was coming back midseason. That was a good show, it just started to hit its groove right at the end. Gee is ABC trying to compete with NBC for 4th place?

Star Wars has some pretty good music at least, which would technically correspond with MTV. Probably more music content than a lot of what they air nowadays.

I agree, Nacho Libre has no business being on Cartoon Network, just like Nanny 911 and The World's Strictest Parents on CMT, and Extreme Makeover on TV Land!

What's next, The Man Show on Lifetime? :-[
