Rap on 1610

Heard it today at 6:30 AM central time. Couldn't listen long enough to try to catch an ID (like they would give one). It was a solid S-5 here in north Alabama. By the time I got back at 8, it was gone. Any ideas? Thanks.

Was this the Caribbean Beacon in Anguilla? They play music interludes between Gene Scott's preachings.

It might have been, but the beacon has never been that strong here before. I'm not sure they would do rap between shows, just not a good mix.

Could it be CJWI in Montreal? I'm not sure if the Anguilla station would play rap since it may be religious. Just my guess.

I read that CJWI is a Haitian/variety programming in French.

How long did you listen to it for? I know some radio shows that will open with songs including rap. Ive come across sports shows playing Eminem as their intro and it went on for about a minute before the show began.

I listened for a few minutes, so I don't think it was an intro. I just heard it once, and I've checked almost every morning since.

I was doing a bandscan and i heard this rap. around 9-10 pm eastern time. i listened to this weak signal for about two minutes. it seems like full songs are being played. i think this could be a pirate, but i could be wrong.

Probably a nearbye part 15,,, which can get out up to 10 miles legally... Pirates dont use AM...

if it helps. i live in pennsauken NJ and it was a faint signal above the noise.

I was trying to tune the GE Superadio II a few nights ago to see how far it went past 1600. At present I don't want to fiddle in the back with the little screwdriver to get the full X-Band. That band is already available on the GE SR III, as grossly wideband as the III is.

There was some French on 1610, though, accompanied/interspersed at times by unlikely music. The French I heard didn't have that more laid-back Canadian French I'm used to hearing, so I thought what was coming over was some sort of relay of European French.

I suppose now it was CJWI's Haitian dialect (which means music and all). Again, I'd guessed 'Canada' first, but then it had a stridency that Canadian French doesn't have.
