Rate the 80s on Mix 107.7-Time for the 80s to go?

Go to mix1077.com and sign up for Rate the Music through Mix 107.7 and you can rate the 80s tunes they're playing. Several of the tunes i'm personally burned out on such as "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Come On Eileen" and "Jessie's Girl" are on the list. I'm wondering if 'MMX is doing this to see if the audience is ready to say sayonara to the stale 80s tunes and hello to something else.

Not to be disrespectful, however, "who cares?" We are in the MP3/Ipod age. Download your own music files and enjoy (commercial free). The talent on local morning radio shows has become shallow. Local programming will survive with news and information. Just an opinion.

Hey, Alan, thanks! I will do that.

Voice of Truth,

Why are you on a radio board if you're just going to discuss MP3 players, iPods, etc? Some people actually do like seeing what happens to radio.

I do that...however, it is beyond time for some of these 80s tunes to leave the airwaves. I can't be the only one that is sick and tired of "Tainted Love", "Jessie's Girl", and "I Melt With You".
I think Mix has a good morning show. What do you want from a morning show? Personally, I want news and information mixed with some good music, entertainment news, and a little humor. Mix is only one of three music stations in this market that actually have live and local morning shows-the others are Lite FM and K-99.1.

Come one people, 80's is not a format. It is an OH WOW song every 30 minutes on Hot AC.

Guys,

Come on. Do you really think an online "music test" will have any bearing on their playlist? This is purely for click-throughs on their site to raise numbers and get hits for their advertisers. That's it. Oh, and to get your e-maill address to send you newsletters.

Online music testing is becoming a cost-effective way of doing music research.

However, it's not done by posting song titles or hooks on the website (or asking you for your "three favorite songs"). You recruit potential panelists via your e-mail database, and screen them in a number of different ways (I don't want to give away potentially proprietary information here). You also have the option to screen someone out of the panel should you suspect they're not giving honest answers, or don't fit your demos. I've done it before - it can be effective if done correctly, and it can lead to increased ratings. And many stations who now feel the pinch on their research budgets are doing their music research this way.

The issues I see here aren't the result of a format problem, they're the result of a PD problem. No matter what format a station plays, the same songs over and over will and do get stale. The 80's produced enough great music that it would be very easy to play for several days straight without repeating a song, and still not run out. There's no excuse for burning up a song in this format.

I'm not sure why 'MMX plays the same exact 80s songs over and over.  Too bad they don't program their 80s music during the day like they play on the "Time Warp Cafe".  I am sick to death of the following tunes:
Anything by Rick Springfield("Rock of Life" is an exception), especially Jessie's Girl.
Come On Eileen
Tainted Love
Anything by Bon Jovi
Anything by Air Supply(They shouldn't be on a Hot AC Period)
Jack and Diane
I could go on and on, but you get the point. Ironically enough, most of the above songs were on the "Rate the 80s" survey I filled out weeks ago. Ugh.
