Ratings are in... Observations

Although I realize 12+ numbers mean nothing to sales execs... but they still measure total audience to me. So with that said, let's take a peek and have some fun...The Winter book is out and 4 of the 6 Cox owned FMs are below 13th place. How and the hell does that group's management explain that to corporate? I mean come on... The Point has far outlived it's format on 101.5, The Bone remains a crap of a classic rock station on 102.5, and "X" is gonna die on 97.1 thanks to not moving it to one of the 2 previously mentioned frequencies. I'll let The Eagle slide since I'm guessing their demo's numbers are probably good enough and have picked up a good share of the former Thunder 103.5 audience. However, it seems very apparent that they're in a battle now with Q-105 with WRBQ continuing to maintain a good sized share of that pie.Other observations:-98 Rock looks like they were turning things around with Cowhead. Too bad. 97-X is sliding.-The growth continues for 92.5. Looks like that change is paying off.-A bad book for the CHR/POP stations. FLZ and Wild are both down.-US103.5 continues to erode at WQYK-FM while AM1010 finally scores a 0.-Magic 94.9 stays consistant and Mix 100.7 still sucks....and finally,-Dick Ring's number gets bigger at WDUV. Special thanks goes to the idots at Salem who in only a few months manage to erase 860 WGUL from radios and minds of every senior citizen in Tampa Bay!!

Looks like Cowhead plus 98 Rock's move away from mullet rock may have taken a bite out of 97X's numbers. Something tells me the next book will tell which was more responsible. Look at the drop at Wild...think their listeners went to WSJT? Actually not a great book for younger skewing stations all around. Could be another factor in 97X's decline in overall numbers.Time for some shuffling at Cox? I'd combine The Eagle and Bone into one Classic Rock juggernaut, make 97X into 107X (while I'm at it I'd widen the playlist to include more Alternative Gold and new/indie artists), transition 101.5 to variety hits (skewed younger than WRBQ), and for 97.1.....not sure....Spanish AC? Cox, on the the other hand, will likely change nothing. WFUS has carved out a nice slice of the Country market for itself...and is slowly chipping away at WQYK. And just where is WQYK AM ? It has been speculated Classic Country is simply a placeholder on 1010.....Progressive Talk or Standards/Oldies in the works?
