RATINGS ARE IN

The Arbitron Ratings are in:

WUBT-FM is #1

JACK FM is #2

WSM FM is #3 (THAT'S A SHOCKER)

The ROCK fell to 4th

Mix 92.9 is holding steady at 5th place

98 WSIX is at 6th place

92.Q holding steady at 7th

Oldies 97.1 has cracked the top 10.

1075 the river is at 9th

and rounding out the top 10 the fading WKDF

I guess no one is listening to talk radio in Nashville anymore.

The fast climb of JACK is dramatic, and probably the strongest of the format in the country. Nashville's new #1 next trend? Show's me that people in the Music City were tired of the same old crap!

Thanks!

Sure they are. Look at the adult ratings, where the money is, and you'll see talk right on up there. The results of these 12+ ratings just demonstrate that the kiddies are out of school for the summer.

It shows that several of our music formats were/are tired, that's for sure. You can't say that people were tired of the same old music, 'cause isn't that what Jack plays, just in a wider rotation with a fresher presentation? And look how well Oldies is doing, as in its death and rebirth it was given a dusting off and fresher presentation. I think more than anything, as far as music formats go, these trends are saying keep revitalizing formats, don't keep giving us status quo, and above all, keep it professional!

What amazes me is that some of our local music frequencies are still being held hostage by very tiny radio groups who are "playing what we like" and being content to reside in the cellar. They make their money by selling spins (in legal fashion, of course) and by selling time to "alternative" businesses. Good grief, if you don't know what to do with these stations after all of this time, sell to some professional broadcasters already, okay?

All in all, the new music formats that have seemed to capture listeners' attention here have one thing in common: a recognition of the existence of the iPod. They are obviously programming to compete with it. Could the near future bring us more of two types of stations -- the "more music" stations to compete with the iPod for music listenership and the live and local speciality talk stations in recognition of the fact that a lot listeners no longer depend on radio for music?

As far as news and talk formats go, I think these trends are saying there's only so much room for the same old stuff. The Fan didn't really have a chance as a sports entry. Time for something new there, too.

I, for one, am shocked. The Wolf has finally done it.

Jack story

No- it shows JACK filled a need and filled it well. And that WRQQ did the same.
As I said half-kiddingly on another board, Cumulus should've done JACK and saved everybody all the commotion.

Randy Hill for Preasident!!!

Great move in dropping the Oldies in favor of more up-to-date music. Congrats to RH and The Staff.

What he said was right. A fresh format and fresh presentation.

As I look at these Nashville trends what I see is that taking chances and making changes can pay off big time.

It looks like WCJK is the biggest Jack success story to date. Wow is that impressive! At the same time, WRQQ could have stayed with it's low rated Hot AC format, instead they filled the oldies void are are getting highly rewarded for it.

WSM-FM could have "stayed the course" and stayed the lowest rated country station. Instead they hired a contoversial PD and totally re-branded the station and are now the #1 country station.

Congratulations to all three of these stations.
