I am convinced they don't really care anymore. I got to wonder if after this stations gets blown up if either Paulsen or McIntire will be working in the Pittsburgh market ever again and on what type of station?

With CBS slowly getting rid of their FM talkers in other markets, one can only wonder how long Dan Mason will allow The Zone to continue.

I can't imagine Dan Mason letting the zone sink into the new year. The big question is what will be the new format on 93.7 if and when they blow up the zone? I know a lot of CBS stations that were talk are bringing back the rock formats to their stations

i'm sorry, but a 3 share has got to be better than whatever they have now....

No doubt.

This is a list of the current FM talk/Free FM stations currently under CBS Radio.

Stations still branded as Free FM
Detroit – WKRK 97.1
Los Angeles – KLSX 97.1

FM talk stations
Baltimore – WHFS 105.7
Chicago – WCKG 105.9
Dallas – KLLI 105.3
Washington, D.C. – WJFK-FM 106.7
Pittsburgh – WTZN-FM 93.7

Los Angeles was doing the FM Talk format before Howard exited because I remember Howard used to talk about how horrible the station sounded with all of the Howard clones on it. Overall the ratings across the board have been terrible. Below a 1.0 on FM, even the religious FM stations can do better than that.

I believe most of these stations were already doing talk before Free FM was born, and they got rebranded when everybody but Pittsburgh flipped simultanteously.

My guess would be that The Zone would revert to an earlier format, but because WZPT is playing a lot more songs from this decade, I doubt CBS would bring back B94. My prediction is rock.

Bring back K Rock, and more Bob Orilee!

Zopolis and Dave Cook are doing swing shifts in the building. Bring back Bob O, and we're almost there. Unfortunately, I don't see Megan ever coming back.

What about mornings? Should they keep O&A?

If Scott Paulsen was willing to do mornings again they'd have the ingredients to start a great rock station.

I know he doesn't want to do them anymore, but if the alternative was not working at all, I wonder if his mind would change.

I've said it before. K-Rock coulda been a contender, but when you have more than 50% of your hours from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. filled up with talk you're not a rock station.

I got to agree that Megan Slater has moved on quite well.

The thing is if CBS Radio does want to flip back to rock, their on-air people have to display a positive outlook towards Pittsburgh. I got sick of both DVE and the X's on-air talent whining about how they hate Pittsburgh, how Pittsburgh has nothing going on for it, even going as far as to say that Cleveland has more going on for it than Pittsburgh. If I had a dime for each time that Allen Cox, Whipping Boy, Vinny, Jim Krenn, and others from both stations talked negatively about Pittsburgh, I would be retired right now.

Paulsen is a big part of Pittsburgh radio, but his schtick has not changed much over the years. The non heterosexual voices (like the Steeley McBeam bit from his current show and the Bradley character from 'DVE) are done and have been over since the early to mid 90's.

If the rock format comes back to 93.7, they would benefit from something or somebody who would offer something new in morning drive. If they still go out-of-market, then Rover's Morning Glory would not be a bad idea.

I wholeheartedly agree.

If you hate the town so much, then try to get a job in another market.

The fact you don't is a clear indication you're really not very talented.
