Ratings, are you serious?

I notice that you spend a lot of time talking about ratings here. As a radio listener I had no idea how it all worked or why people obsessed about it so much, until today when I learned more than I wish I would have. WHAT THE F???? After reading "Why Does Commercial Radio Suck?" at http://www.lisawood.blogspot.com, I'm left asking WHY do you put ANY weight into this lame system? How can you possibly predict anything?

I know you hate the fact that there are people who read, like and actually (gasp!) support Lisa's blog, (although I think many of you read it and post the anonymous slander she receives daily), but this isn't her writing. It's someone else's that she posted. I really can't understand WHY you worry about it so much when it's so incredibly inaccurate

Wow an insider who filled out a diary, while employed in radio, and who attached her name to the paper...just because you're out doesn't mean you can't get in trouble for that.

1) Arbitron ain't the only thing out there...sorry, you lie.
2) Other systems are being tested and aren't making much difference in the way the numbers come out
3) What exactly do YOU suggest? Did you know that about 30 percent of the 1 percent of all listeners who will actually call a radio station get through the busy tones? Should we let THAT fraction decide? I think not.

You forgot to inquire if anyone gave a damn here about "Lisa" here...

...they don't.

Why don't they figure out a way to use the internet to do the ratings, I know not everyone has the net, but not everyone fills out those books either.

I thought the current system was supposed to do that.....

They are. Some people are responding via the internet right now.

The PPM is a bigger priority right now.

I can't understand with your obsession with Lisa and her blog and feeling necessary to regurgitate her chronicles. Especially consdering having already declared yourself being a simple KEXP fan and not working in radio.

I'm not saying you have to work in radio to post here (I don't think most people who post on this board collect a paycheck from radio right now anyway), but your consistent PR for Lisa is a little awkward, and if you really think about it, a little creepy.

If you're not Lisa yourself, that is.

I think they ought to put a chip in every radio produced that transmits what freq. it is on and how much time it spent there. The info will be gathered in one central place and analyzed. Then outlaw any use of radioes that do not have the chip. I'll bet ratings would be accurate then!

But my friend...you need not put special equipment in a radio to be able to tell what frequency it is on. You can pick that information up with a special device that scans moving vehicles...TSL, etc. is harder to determine though.

I don't know why you find it so hard to believe that there are people who LOVE kexp, Lisa and all of what they do there. Do you see all of the support on her blog? I'm simply trying to back her up here since you all treat her cause like complete CRAP.

Where did I say anything in this thread about what is written in her blog?

I'm sure there are people who love KEXP and love Lisa. And you know what, that's perfectly fine -- no problem -- land of the free, home of the brave -- it's yours and everyone else's right to do so (nonetheless, your fascination with her and this site is still creepy).

But if her blog is so popular with the "support" that you mention, then why do you need to advertise it here? I mean, do whatever you want, but your "support" makes me believe that you're either Lisa herself (which is still fine) or you've got some radio-groupie type thing going on.

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but KEXP plays a huge part of my life and I don't know what I'd do without their feed to listen to every day. I guess I am pretty riled up about it, but it's not a "groupie" thing. I just see all the horrible things you all say about her and thought I would offer the perspective of a fan that loves the station and reading what she has to say. You have accused almost every supporter of hers here of being her. Just get over it and realize there are a lot of people who dig it.

Sure, that's great.

It smells of it.

I haven't read every single post that mentions her name or her blog, but I have yet to see someone attack her personally. Her words fail the stink test, but she does not deserve to be attacked personally.

You have accused almost every

I have? I'd love for you to prove that.

Just get over it and

That's not the point. Go ahead and enjoy KEXP all you want, nobody should have any issues with your personal preferences.

But as long as you continue on this bizarre crusade of yours on this board, I will continue to challenge any inaccuracies you make.

Can you say stalker? Do you know what it means? Wow...get some counseling, an attachment such as yours is NOT healthy. "I don't know what I'd do without their feed to listen to everyday"...got much of an attachment issue?

Hey Dougee! Here's the skinny on why people on this board tend to be ready to bash Lisa at a moments notice it's called "Bitterness".
The Bitterness that oozes from every word that she types on her blog.
She's pissed off because when she was a jock at KISW she didn't get to pick the music, well sorry that the station won't let you make it your own personal I-pod there Ms. Wood!
She also ranted about not getting to play requests and how she had no idea what coporate radio was like - Bull S***T! She interned at KUBE which is owned by Clear Channel now while I'm sure they weren't as large when she interned there i'm sure she got first hand knowledge what it's like at a corporate radio station.
Lisa needs to get off the primrose path and accept the fact that she can piss and moan all she likes that corporate radio sucks and that we should all listen and support KEXP because they're so good and wholesome and stand for what's good in broadcasting - *Yawn!* Well she can save it because I for one don't wish to hear her inane ramblings about how evil anything but non profit public radio is.
AS for people who go to her blog i'm sure there's nothing "slanderous" written there, some might make personal attacks or respond in a not so intelligent manner but I doubt vcery highly that any of it is slanderous so be careful with throwing that word around.
Now, as for the arbitron books, is it a perfect system? nope, not at all but no system is perfect, every one has it's flaws, if you don't like the system come up with a new one or better yet have your hero Lisa come up with one..sounds liek a good idea eh?
So some insider got a book, won't be the first time and won't be the last, if someone is that desperate to fill out a book and give high ratings to themselves or those close to them in the business than they obviously don't have any business being in the competitive business of radio and I would guess they won't be in for very long either.
