I always find it interesting when folks assume a station is doing poorly based on ratings. This is business, and in business, it's all about the benjamins. If there are two sports equipment stores in the same town, and store #1 has a better reputation and is always more profitable than store #2, it's not like store #2 is just going to close up shop and go home. As long as a business is making money, it's a going concern.
Back to radio, it doesn't really matter why a station turns a profit (Sixers/Flyers/Union games, etc.); what matters is that it turns a profit. WYSP was on the air and profitable for years based largely on the strength of one four-hour block that aired on weekday mornings. Profit is profit.
