Ratings Guys!

The ratings for Raleigh Durham have come out. WCHL actually shows up! As for the River, doesn't look like it is catching on, though I don't mind the station personally. WWMY is up and WRDU is flat. No sign of the new sports station at 1490 AM or the sister station (Triangle Sports Radio)- the Buzz still on top. Anything else to notice?

I would really like to see how the pulic stations did, though...does anyone know where I can go to find that out...?

those are only 12 plus...based on those numbers...River affected WRAL, G105,
WBBB, and WRDU for Winter book. Based on 12 plus, it APPEARS that the River sampling has waned and those affected stations are coming back up. But this is all armchair guessing.

The real story is P25-54, which we can't see. I bet the River is doing well, growing slowly. I hope, truly hope, RDU can turn the corner as well.
Edited by cmatthews on 06/11/05 02:18 PM.

I moved from Raleigh in March. I thought that Y 102.9 sounded the best of ANY triangle station at that time. I would take Mix 101.5 or 106.1 RDU any day before The River, but I LOVE their Imaging! Is the voice guy for the River the old RDU voice? Sounds similar.

Yes, it's RDU's old VO, Chris Corley. RDU's current VO is better, IMHO :)...plus I imaged the station from 2000-2004, using each talent. The current talent is better.

Did you image Sunny and Oldies too? I LOOOOOVEED WTRG's Imaging before they flipped.

I forgot to mention RDU's current VO team is John Wells (www.johnwells.com), who's also on The Buzzard in Greensboro, and the female vo is Ann Dewig, www.anndewig.com.

I did image WTRG, but not Sunny. I appreciate your kind comments. I imaged WTRG from May 2000 right up to the flip. Was also the APD/Interim PD. I imaged the station much the way I did WMJI/Cleveland when I worked there, but not exactly, as WMJI is more "progressive" style-wise...a little flashier. I took WTRG as far as we felt we could yet kept somewhat a traditional sound given the market.

For anyone who cares I myself voice a station in Greenville - Pirate Radio 1250, www.pirateradio1250.com

And it sounds GREAT! It sounds very big for the size of the station it is. The old imaging you did on Mix 94.3 with Ali Davidson sounded good too.
______________

Shirley Rhodes images Pirate 1250, I just voice it. She makes me sound good.

many thanks on the MIX 94 imaging. Jeff Davis was great to work with. I also did the Eagle launch for Jeff when MIX flipped.

WCHL

WCHL showing up in part b/c of UNC's national title run perhaps? Or is its mostly liberal talk lineup starting to catch on?

Pirate Radio's imaging is very good. It's hard to believe this is a move in from Farmville. Compared to the other news/talk AM in G'ville....

well, there is no comparison.

My guess is that it was not the Games. The TV stations cover it extensively. To be honest, I don't know why they are so focussed on sports- it seems some other channel (The Buzz, Triangle Sports Radio) would be a better fit. I was trying to think whether the River was playing the games as well...?

They were. If anything I think it probably hurt what their numbers could have been in the last book.

That format and sports don't mix well.
______________

Re: WCHL

WCHL is the flagship station for the Tar Heel Sports Network. Makes sense since they are in Chapel Hill and Jim Heavener owned the network for years before selling it to Learfield Sports.

These are just my perceptions:

My perception of Chapel Hill (the town) is not one of major sportsfans listening to mid power AM stations. I assume most fans (who don't even live in Chapel Hill) will prefer to get their fix from a nice powerful high quality FM signal (such as The River) they can get throughout the whole triangle rather than WCHL static. Adding TV to that competition and you might as well get out of the game. I can't believe sportsfans are all that sentimental about WCHL...

IMHO Triangle Sports Radio or the Buzz are far better fits than WCHL or The River.

You're only looking at three month, unweighted rolling averages for commercial stations that meet minimum reporting. Non-commercial stations are only published in software available to commercial radio stations via Maximi$er and MediaPro. These numbers only come out four times a year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) books. Non-commercial stations can't use the data to sell against commercial stations.
