Ratings Predictions for tonight's Academy Awards

I thought there was a thread on here devoted to something similar, but any predictions on the final ratings for tonight's Academy Awards telecast on ABC? Particularly with James Franco and Anne Hathaway as the Oscars' youngest co-hosts ever. The LA Times indicated in an article this past Thursday that they felt the Academy Awards' ratings slide might be eased (based on ratings of previous awards shows earlier this year). Article linked below:

Agree or disagree?

And here's another wrinkle to tonight's Oscar ratings drama: a large area of severe weather forecast particularly for tonight for major markets in the Mid-South, Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley. Including the cities of Tulsa, Kansas City, St. Louis, Little Rock, and perhaps Nashville (a MODERATE RISK for severe weather exists for parts of Arkansas, Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky).

Makes me wonder--could the weather be severe enough in some areas where we see some ABC affiliates in the risk area go to wall-to-wall weather during the Academy Awards? Link to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center page for today's risk below:

Seeing that all I could find to watch was MASH reruns, they should get high ratings, unless
folks turn off the TV and do something else.

I agree with the previous comment...not much else on. Not even any sports to watch.

So I've got it on while doing other things.

I liked the open montage. They definitely hauled out lots of big names.

They're in the home stretch now....we'll see how it ends up.

The severe weather hampered with the Oscar telecast in the Peoria/Bloomington, IL market. As the linked Peoria Journal-Star article below indicates, a lightning strike briefly knocked ABC affiliate WHOI-19 (now operated by NBC affiliate WEEK-25) off the air--then when the backup tranny was turned on, the incorrect signal was initially broadcast. About 13 minutes of Academy Awards coverage went unseen in the Peoria market due to last night's severe weather.

So I read the ratings were down 10% from last year. Yet 37 million people watched. How can that be a failure?

But the hosts were wet dish rags. No chemistry. No zing. Sure they can read teleprompter. So can Katie Couric. Have her host next year. At least she'll be perky.

I guess most men watched not only for Anne Hathaway, but to see whether or not Natalie Portman would win (which she did of course).

And by the way...the Oscars were broadcast LIVE here in Alaska for the first time since 1996, while Hawaii still saw them on tape delay hours later, meaning they to refrain from Twitter/Facebook unlike us. Maybe next year, the Academy Awards will finally be telecast live in all time zones along with the Golden Globes (and the 2014 Primetime Emmys on NBC).

Perhaps a good name for the 83rd Academy Awards should've been "The Anne Hathaway/Natalie Portman Show featuring James Franco" (much like The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show), as the two were the people to watch that night.
