Ratings Question

I saw the recently released ratings on a website and did not see 106.9 Free FM on the list. They have been on the air since October yet I cannot seem to find any bit of ratings information.

On the other hand, Free FM in New York has had ratings released.

I am missing something here, and anyone help me out?

They're missing something. They didn't "make the book." They didn't reach the minimum reporting criteria required by ARB.

Keep in mind that the formaat started well after the trend started. The trend started in the 3rd week of October, when there was no Free FM.

Close, but no stogie. The 'Trend may have started the third week of October, but Free FM 106.9 (KIFR) launched on October 25. Is a few days "well after"?

Of course, CBS will argue that -- although the station was on the air -- it wasn't heavily promoted until it got closer to Adam Carolla's start date, so the numbers still don't count.

That's kind of like opening a restaurant in October and saying we're not going to advertise it because the food won't be any good until January ... but come on in and eat anyway!

However, given that 106.9 was religious for many years before the purchase and flip, it isn't likely that there was very much sampling before the promotion started. And how many listeners tune up near the high end of the dial when they are scanning around? And how many, when scanning, might hear talk programming, think it's still KEAR, and scan away before even hearing enough to find out it isn't?

I agree with your presumed CBS argument. It isn't very likely there was a significant number of people listening to KIFR before the January promotional blitz.<P ID="signature">______________

It was early on and I didn't think they'd make the arbs until after Jan 1st anyway. However, Free FM has major issues...Number 1 being the mid-days. Drunk or Not, Darrian's show is cited by just about everyone I know as being the thing they hate about the station. Plus, she really doesn't fit in with all the other "male" stuff.

I saw where they were going when they hired her...But they were warned by several people about the self destructive nature of Ms O'Toole. Whoops.

I also don't think Corolla is going to work out, even though I think he can be hysterical.

I Think they should put London in the mornings, Do a male/female team show during mid-days and find a local show for PMD.

I think you nailed the problems.

Male oriented (Carolla) to female oriented (O'Toole) to random (Penn) back to male (London then Lykis).

Altough Carolla's numbers were horrible in LA, I don't see them dumping him. He seems like he is either on all the west coast stations or gone.

I can see moving up Penn (I don't know when he tapes his show, I think it might be 11:00 pacific). Maybe get Cramer moneytalk at 10:00 am since it is moving to some Free FM stations in March, and then get a much, much (much) better lead in to London. He now has 5 hours of lead in of people who probably don't just not care about him, but really dislike his show.

Anyone hear the rumor on Stern today that Danny Bonaduce has already tested to take over for David Lee Roth.

As I said earlier, not a good week to be CBS radio.
