Ratings Reading

Why isn't anyone talking about the ratings in Reading? It seems like like just yesterday, many people were actually believing that there was a new number 1 in Reading. Today, I think the question has been answered. Great job y-102.

The Reading ratings are client exclusive. So to the rest of the public... we honestly don't know how each station did. We can usually safely assume that Y102 dominated, and if you're post is correct, they did.

Adults 12+ M-Su 6a-12m are available at several sites, but nothing specific. You can get ratings for every rated US Market free at www.allaccess.com . You do need to register, but it's free. It's run by WFIL former boss jock Joel Denver.

Those numbers reveal WRFY with a 14.4, followed by
WRFY-FM with over a 14 share
WEEU-AM with over a 10 share
WIOV-FM
WYSP-FM
WBEB-FM
WRFF-FM
WOGL-FM
WISX-FM
3-way tie
WIOQ-FM
WMGK-FM
WRAW-AM then closing local ranks,
WFKB-FM
Surprised to see handicapped signal of 1340 beating Frank FM stereo in total listenership

I think that they must update the stations call letters/formats as they change, but at the top of the Reading Ratings, the book says:

Fall '04 ARBITRON Quarterly Report 12+ Mon-Sun, 6a-12mid.

AllAccess keeps the old numbers up. Radio & Records wipes their board clean if the market goes exclusive.

So congrats to WRFY for their 14.4 in the Fall of 04 :) I'm sure they're still #1 now.

the only reason people listen to wrfy is because itsall they can get on their office radios.

well i'd rather listen to nothing if my only choice was WRFY. they do have one or two redeeming factors and a good DJ or two, but otherwise, boring.

You know, in all fairness....I have been hearing for years and years and years how Y-102 has
1) no competition and 2) how it's the only station people can get ......well for the past few years
they have had competition from 107.5 which they continue to distance themselves from with every
book and for the second objection, I think we all know with today's technology, there is no such
thing as "the only station I can get" !! So even if you hate Y-102 with a passion, be a true radio
professional and say after 28 years on top ---"Job well done"

12plus numbers

wrfy 14.8
weeu 8.4
wfkb 6.9

wiov fm 6.6

I know you can't post other numbers, but WRFY is number one 25-54 with more than 2x as many listeners as Frank.

WRFY still is the dominate station in Berks.

Looks like Y102 is doing a great job, in spite of a local competitor, satellite radio, I-pods and the Internet.

Now I know that some posters who are not in Y102's target demo, or who hate everything about radio today, will still say they suck, and that's ok. But somebody must like Y102.

Or it might be another factor, those with resentment of part of their tagline: ROCK hits. Yes, there are those who hate on a station just because of format. Closeminded, but it happens.

That being said, the only thing I can see 107.5 flipping to and being somewhat sucessful would be as a Mainstream CHR. Make it too rhythmic (a la Wired in Philly) and it will bomb.

hits are fine. tool has hits, soad, korn, godsmack all have hits, but you dont hjear them on y-102 or zzo... hell no, you need a REAL rocker, like WWYY, WYSP, or WMMR. REAL rock, not p**** rock with the same songs everyday over and over and over again. yea frank only plays old rock, but they dont call themselves something their not. they say calssic rock or classic hits, and thats what they are, 100%. y102 and zzo on the other hand, especially y102, are soft, repetitive and boring. how does jack johnson rock?

Like I said, 19 year old guys like eyg or whatever don't like y102. But I beg to differ...Heard on Y102 today..
AC/Dc, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Staind, Pink Floyd BOC, Default etc. The last I checked , they are Rock Bands. And the songs are Hits, or at least well known. So The term Rock Hits fits! Korn, Tool, etc are heard on Active Rock stations. And I haven't heard Jack Johnson in Years on Y102..

and have you seen YSP's ratings in Reading, or in Philly. The are the worst in years. If playing Korn, Godsmack, etc would increase Y102's ratings, they would do it.

I am not saying those bands or that music is bad, it just doesn't fit on WRFY.

Why doesn't McDonalds sell Pizza? Because they don't. The sell burgers and I don't bitch at them for not selling Pizza...I just go someplace else for Pizza. Why doesn't Y102 Play Korn? Because they don't. So if I want to hear Korn, I go someplace else. That's the great thing about this Country, Freedom of Choice!

Hope eyg can understand

Wow ----McDonald's selling pizza ---the McPizza --what a concept !!! If I were you I would
run to the local patent office and put my name on that idea right away !!! What could be next
for Reading ?? Dan's Gourmet Restaurant selling 25 cent wings on a Monday ? ha ha ha ha !

we may be on to something! But seriously, check out the Philly June PPM numbers.

YSP is not even in the top 10- 18-34. 18-49 they are 14th, and 25-54 they are 17th.

I guess that Korn & Tool is really working for them!

its working fof the bone in the lehigh valley, and MMR plays Tool and Korn. they actually play tool quite a lot. and YSP's numbers are down, because of all the old stuff their starting to play.

and backinblack, i do undersdtand about y102, not all stations can be good right?

but seriously, PST is the #1 station in bucks county. thats just like y102 being #1 in berks. then again, i'll take PST over y102 anyday.

and i dont listen to y102 my step dad puts it on in thew car sometimes, and it drives me nuts, then i reach up and click it up to 102.9 (because its only 2 clicks).

ok...I got it. Everyone has their own taste in music, and there is no right or wrong when it comes to what we like. Hell, I can listen to Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, and Velvet Revolver all in the same day.
Now there's a Radio Station for you...

I was only trying to make a point that Y102 serves their audience and is successful. They must be doing something right. Radio is a business.

Have a great day!

Agreed (and great music selection, BTW), but while true, someone does need to come in and at least TRY to knock them off the perch. It can be done, but not with "light classic rock" or (as was the case with Frank predecesor WYCL) AC. Could another FMer come sweeping into Reading? Maybe split off the old WFMZ link to launch a new format for BrksCo on 98.5? Speaking of Reading allocations, whatever happened to the long-rumored one for a new AM at 870?

that really ain't that bad for frank. they're nowhere near WRFY, but they're closing in on the old folk WEEU crowd and they beat WIOV which has always been a solid performer in Reading. so a 6.9 really ain't bad.

I gotta just say "Interstate 78" you are probably one of the most brilliant people ever to grace these
boards ------Y-102 absoultely sucks with a 14.8 ..BUT ...Frank is doing good with a 6.9 !!! Too bad
the Bush Administration is coming to an end, because logic like yours would certainly land you a high
profile job !!
