Ratings Tomorrow: Big Deal

The ratings tomorrow mean nothing for the first time in Seattle.
At least seven stations have made major changes rendering the Fall
book a waste. WOLF, KISW, BUZZ, KNDD are totally not what they were
in fall which means all male leaning stations and KMPS will not have
accurate ratings either. MIX 92.5 and KMTT both lost their Program
Directors so who knows what they will sound like. KBSG has added a bunch
of 70's music, KOMO is scrapping its News format and going talk during the day, which will affect KIRO that shifted back to more news a couple of months ago.
This book is a WASTE OF PAPER! JACK will be huge, but I get the feeling is
already dying with all of the other changes in the market. KRWM numbers in December are bloated thanks to Christmas music, same with KCMS. This Fall book
is a DISASTER. So who is the same and unaffected by change:
KPLZ hasn't changed. Oh wait, their part-time PD got a full spread in
the PI talking about all his charity work. I gagged. No wonder the station was off the air this morning when they kicked off their cash contest. (Dead AIR for ten minutes. Are they automated in the morning?)
KUBE still owns KBKS in every important demo. Why doesn't KBKS blow up their format and morning show?
They have been dropping like a rock for a year. Do they even have a morning show
anymore? Never hear about them anywhere.
Hey here's an idea: KBKS can play Christmas music year round. blah blah blah

The Winter book in Seattle will look nothing like the Fall. I am no iknowitall
but you can bet KMPS, KISW, BUZZ, JACK will be cut in half from what they get
in Arbs tomorrow. KUBE may have the only honest number in town.

Honest numbers in radio? That was more of a stretch than I've heard lately! Isn't everyone #1 even when they aren't?

Now that is funny! I do agree this book should be taken with
a grain of salt. There are always changes in radio, but more
than usual this year. I feel this will be JACK's final big
book. WOLF will certainly hurt KMPS, but I wouldn't count them
out yet. KBKS remains a solid performer in younger demo's even
if they aren't as strong as they were a year ago. Is KPLZ's
PD part-time? I saw the article in the PI today, but thought
he was full-time. Is there something wrong with doing charity
in your free time? Will be fun to see Stern's final numbers as
well as the Buzz and the END. Will JACK stay strong? Will Wolf
beat KMPS? What happens to KISW? Winter will not tell the story,
nor will Fall ratings. The ratings story is told over four books.
Let's see how all of these stations do, at this time next year.
That is the proof of success or failure

I certainly agree with this thread. This market will be difficult to buy deep. You media buyers have your work cut out for you, for sure. It could be a tremendous buying opportunity to beat up the cluster reps for some extremely good deals. Stations I see worth buying without much shake and bake are KUBE, KPLZ, KZOK, KIRO, KOMO, KCMS and KWRM. And don't forget some of the non-coms for buying government and non-profit spots. C-89 and X104 do exceedingly well in the young adult demo and have been consistant performers, given their obvious limitations.

Yeah...i can imagine X104 gets a .0002 with that signal that totally blankets mercer island and the I-90 floating bridge...bwahahah

Ha! You'd be surprised to know that X104 pulls in tens of thousands of listeners from that 30 watt flamethrower, according to Arbitron, 12+ 6am-Mid, mon-sun, of course.

They cover some territory that really counts too. 20 somethings on Mercer Island and in Bellevue (especially if they are still living with parents) might have a healthy portion of disposable income.. or allowance.

There, fixed it for ya.

Teens & 20-somethings in Mercer Island and Bellevue probably have more disposable income than the majority of people working in radio! :p

Ain't that the truth.

Nah, "tens of" is about right.

And since when does the disposable income of a person who listens to a 10 watt non-comm high school station even matter?

OK...

Nothing wrong with erring on the side of generousity, I suppose...

What an immature thing to do on an internet board (strike comments). I've seen the data and I am correct, and you are the fool.

I think you need to learn how to read the data you've seen...or fire the person collecting it...because I've seen "the data" too, and "tens of" is the proper terminology in this case.
