I am proud to be the first smart you know what
out of the gate to congratulate two stations for
a job well done:

1.) WJXA - still on top and getting better

2.) WUHU - out of KY with 1/10th of the signal of any
other station INCLUDING the one FM that it trounched --- THE FAN.

Glad to know they have it right - THH FAN as in ONE - listener.

Don't get carried away, these are just trends. Yet one trend does seem to be that The Fan will occupy the cellar. Seriously, this period does represent a Fan that is firmly entrenched with ESPN... yet all they are able to do is maintain status quo.

I am beginning to get concerned about KDF's slide, but I'll wait on the full Spring book before I worry. And does anyone doubt that JXA is a dynasty?

I agree on the KDF deal. Why are they falling apart, or do you think this is just a fluke? Is it the air talent? The Wolf?

Re: WJXA...

Amazing... let's just hope for South Central's sake that Jack doesn't take any of the lead away. At times it seems like Mix is the one with a bigger variety of '80s pop music.

Re: WKDF...

Even if WKDF slides further, it'll still be profitable for quite sometime. WSM-FM and WSIX put out a better product, that's all there is to it.

Re: WNFN...

Incredible that WUHU 107 beats The Fan. But Cumulus is still committed. They just ran an ad today in All Access looking for a promotions director for WWTN and WNFN who specializes in "talk and sports formats." So for some reason, the Fan stays for awhile.

About the Fan - Woo Hoo sounds better than the Fan signal wise in most places!

I can see Jack taking away from The Rock and Mix, but true Mix fans - especially the office listeners - will be put off by the more obscure stuff they play. Mix lulls you into a nice coma during the day. Jack might wake me up and make me realize I am wasting away in my cubicle.

WKDF - you hit it right on the head. WSM-FM is doing a great job and WSIX only suffers due to the tiny playlist. Don't forget about WSM-AM. They're also taking some of the wind out of KDF's sails.

I know everyone talks about WNFN's signal weakness, but everywhere I go, it booms in. Form where I live in Antioch to where I work (near 440 a couple miles west of 65) 106.7 is clear as a bell. The only stations that seem a bit weak near where I work are 97.1, 102.5 and 102.9.

WUHU I can only get sometimes at night at home if DX conditions are good.

country battle

What do you believe is the difference being made by WSM-FM? Do you think KDF
has gotten lazy, the buzz is off them, WSM-FM is the soup du jours? Love to know what dynamics are changing that whole country lanscape. thanks.

Re: country battle

I don't listen to Country music at all, but my limited
knowledge of what the talk in Nashville among listeners
and the artists I know that are currently on the charts
and are being played on The Wolf is

1.)Wolf's willingness to play a wider variety, slightly more upbeat
Country music along with fringe music like Bob Segar and yes,
Gordon Lightfoot. Like that Jack thing, it makes you wonder
what's happening on there. I wish they'd play more non-country
music. I scan through it maybe once a day max. But that's 100%
more than SIX or KDF.

2.) A professional sound, compared to stupid sounding rednecks
that talk and say nothing. Although that has toned down in this
market. And no, Chris Romer, WSIX isn't a bunch of rednecks.
The Wolf realizes not all Country music fans are "stupid hicks
that can't use proper grammar" is what one performer currently
on the charts told me last week. He said "at least they respect
the listener."

3.) I really think a lot of men who grew up in Nashville still
do get upset that KDF changed from Rock and that has hurt them
over the years and The Wolf just helped make the transition
away worth it.

4.) Long music sets, less talk but yet a willingness to play
innovative and NEW music that is not on the charts yet like
Cowboy Crush's new song. After their performance last night
in Nashville they are going to be huge and Sebastian went out
on a limb in a major way. Good vision and he's having fun
and it shows.

5.) 103 WKDF has no identity. As Music City 103 it had a hometown
thing going. KDF seems shuffled and lost.

6.) Decent billboard presence.

How much stronger or how long the slow rise to the top will take
will be interesting to watch. It's certainly not been a record
breaking success. But,is slow steady growth is better in the long
run?

Count me in as one of those angry men that won't forgive KDF for caving in to the country craze some years ago. Granted, it had lost it's way as a AOR/Alternative and was in need of a major tune up, but abandoning rock was the ultimate betrayal. With the right committment, KDF could have found it's sound and continued on, much like TK 101 did in Pensacola during the same time frame.

Radiocat: The answer is NO, I don't have a clue! YOU are right,
my posts are NEVER correct. My streak continues here. At least up
until this point.

Could you please call R & R and Arbitron and tell them their
numbers are wrong. I'll call Mix 92-9 and tell them they are not
number one anymore. Don't worry about calling The Fan.
Trust me, they know where they stand. I also know that
those worthless 12+ numbers don't mean anything, but I'm
not really wanting to go to jail for posting classified
top secret "real" numbers that also spill the truth.

It's just a matter of time before KDF returns to its rock heritage. Right now they are putting all their eggs ($) into the fall book (the one most advertisers use to set their annual budgets). If they fall in the fall you'll see em rock and rall.

WUHU comes in quite good here in Lebanon and stays strong almost all the way to Antioch (where I work). WGCC out of Glasgow on 95.1 also comes in loud and clear here and even the Beaver (transmitting near the state line around Russellville I think) seems to have some good days on 96.7.

The Fan really picks up for me in Mt. Juliet and is quite strong in Nashville. I notice it is easily interfered with once you get to Hendersonville on North and East towards Gallatin.
