WZKL/Q92 loses 72% (!!!) of it's audience in Canton.

Way to go, Johnboy!!!!!

ZKL is now tied with KDD in 18-34 (Rock 107 is first).

Better tell Deluca to play some more of that Disturbed and Metallica when he moves to mornings!
HAHAHAHA!

Someone told me that yesterday the night guy at Rock 107 was saying his show was #1.

Did Joe Kleon beat Deluca and Q92? DP must be red faced that the new guy at Rock 107 beat his beloved Deluca. Any comments Donnie? Do you feel good about mornings now?

Has this new night guy Joe Kleon risen to #1 at night in less than a year? If so it may seem that Rock 107 has finally brought some stability to their evening shift, which has been a revolving door for years.

#1 in what demo? Who cares?!

CHR and Rock have opposite demographics (and that's the way it should be, even in Canton).

Active rock and CHR both target P18-34. Break it down further and rock targets M18-34, CHR women 18-34.

CHR? Are you kidding? When I've listened lately, WZKL has sounded more like a poorly programmed Jack format than anything else. Ramones, Ozzy Osbourne, Village People and Backstreet Boys ... all in a row? (I'm not kidding ... this trainwreck really happened.) No wonder they've alienated most of their audience. If the PD is reading, I do have a request though ... let's go all out -- how 'bout some Erasure, King Diamond, Statler Brothers and Sonny Boy Williamson followed by a nice Sousa march?

That's my point. Neither station should really care about one another. But yet, they (or at least one of them) seem to care what the other is doing. Each station has their own concerns to concentrate on.

While Q92 and Rock 107 continue their war of words..one of the stories of this book was the absolute disgrace of a performance turned in by Mix 94.1..their worst showing since the fall 2001 book..

Country's performace was solid, again..two country stations in the top 5..and WHBC-AMs slide continues..

according to r and r, whbc am was UP 1/2 point, while whbcfm lost 2+points.
what continues to amaze me is that one of canton's heritage stations, 900 does not even show up on the list. any comments mr amrhein?--david5258

12-plus means ish!!!

Re: Repeating for the ?????th time

Mix 94.1 is showing significant loss in its female core..with WKDD lurking..its a real possibility that WKDD could overtake them in the spring in 25-54, as well as younger demos..

Jeez man, un-wad your panties...12+ is what the general public sees and knows. "12-plus means ish" to salespeople and jocks trying to justify a drop or increase. Let everybody have their fun.

A very reliable source tells me they're starting to feel the pain revenue-wise as well. This hasn't stopped them from quoting those ridiculous $120 rates however (although some folks are getting dirtball rates here and there).

I agree with Speaker. I believe we're going to see the Canton market change very rapidly over the next several months. Not only in terms of ratings, but in terms of revenue performance as well. Already, many national advertisers are running for the hills. They're either chopping down budgets or they're ignoring the local radio market altogether, focusing on Cleveland (and sometimes Akron) for the downspill. On top of that, you've got the local advertisers who are starting to become more and more weary as the local economy continues to sink, ROI's fail to deliver, and the relatively high Canton advertising rates remain unwaivered (at least for now).

If the folks at Next Media and Cumulus don't start to play ball, I think you're going to see them hurt even worse in '06. Could be a very interesting year for Canton radio indeed.

You go ahead and continue to argue a station's performance based on 12+ numbers.

Well, in WHBC-AM's case (which reference started this sub-thread), isn't that their target audience? You know, the seasoned citizens who contribute to teh 12+ numbers?

Just asking. ;-)

Yes, 12+ is just a vanity number for the press, who can not be bothered--or do not understand--the business of demographics.

This has been pointed out by others many times, but remember that the old 850 WRMR was generally TOP 5 12+ with a fabulous Time Spent Listening figure, and the station got blow up. Why? Everyone was over 60 years old!

I will guarantee you that given the choice of #1 12+, but #3 18-34, or #3 12+ and #1 18-34, any station will choose the top demo hands down.

While those facts are true, 850 WRMR wasn't killed because of the audience. Remember, Salem's plans for 850 were far different than just blowing up an undesirable demo station. Salem was looking for a place to put its Christian programming (then on an aging 1420 system) and its sports programming (on 1220).

Don't forget how awkward 850 was between the time that Salem bought it and the 2001 swap. Standards, games shows, snake oil, then more standards. Kinda like 850 now, come to think of it...

Given the choice between those two, yes, take the demo. But the first scenario (#1 overall, #3 in demo) isn't that bad a position to be in either--that's sellable. Now, #3 overall and #5 in demo...then, you've got something to worry about.
