ratings

The Ratings are out as of this afternoon. It Looks like Bob FM is in 5th place, knocking on the door for 4th place. DVE and KDKA still stay on top at 1st and 2nd place. It looks like O & A are not having enough influence on K ROCK. Maybe it is too early to tell if O & A will make a dramatic improvement or not.

"Maybe it is too early to tell if O & A will make a dramatic improvement or not."Did they start already? The only place I've ever seen a mention of them were the places where hardcore radio fans would look. I've never seen anything about them anywhere that an ordinary listener would find out that they were on, and maybe tune them in for a sample. When did they start?

ratings update

WDVE is hugely dominant.WRRK is now up to #3 25-54.3WS is now down to 7th 25-54 (where's Gillespie when they really need him?)

That's a good point about not having enough advertisement for O & A. They have been on K ROCK since 04/24/06, and I still have yet to see an ad on TV for O & A. No billboards found for them out my way.

You just don't get it, do you? WDVE is[i/i] hugely dominant. They've sucked listeners away from 3WS. Both WDVE and 3WS are owned by Clear Channel. Do you think for one minute that Clear Channel would want 3WS to pull any listeners back from WDVE and hurt the flagship's dominant position?I'm not saying that Clear Channel's strategy of "protecting the flagship" at all costs even if in means sacrificing their other stations is a good thing or a bad thing. It simply is what it is. But since the first discussions of Gillespie's tenure at 3WS started, many people from Pittsburgh have told you that Clear Channel's #1 priority is WDVE's success, and anyone who runs 3WS and sucks listeners away from WDVE isn't going to have a long tenure. Clear Channel clearly does not need or want Gillespie helping 3WS suck listeners away from WDVE.

Bob is doing great. I bet K-Rock is kicking themselves for not flipping to Jack. Kiss has gone down a little bit. Can it be that the listeners actually miss Scotty? Nah. That can't be it. The teens must hate the addition of more adult-friendly pop songs like Daniel Powter and Natasha Bedingfield. It's a shame for I really like the new sound of 96.1 Kiss. :'(

[/quote]Take a pill, man. I was joking about Gillespie. A properly programmed and positioned WDVE and WWSW can co-exist and both flourish. They do not share like lifegroups. WDVE has been dominant while 3WS was strong. What don't YOU GET about that?Sheesh.

I was joking about Gillespie.Do the jokes you tell on the air usually bomb like that one did?

"lighten up"If I read a truly funny joke, I think I'd lighten up. I think we all would. Why not regale us with something really, really funny that you've said on your program?

I talked about you. By the way, what radio show are you currently on?[EDIT=personal attack]

"I talked about you."So, let's hear your best funny lines. After all, if you're working on the air as a DJ, you must have some good, funny material to share. "what radio show are you currently on?"You're the one claiming to be the professional DJ, not me. I've never pretended that I left on-air radio work for greener pastures. You claim that you're still active in radio. So, let's hear some of your best material. And don't confuse minor annoyance with anger. I'm not angry. If anything, I'm mildly irritated by your claims of inside industry information, yet you can't even repeat a single original joke you've used on the air. Or do you just read the time and temp, and whatever someone writes on a card for you?

So, to be on-the-air in radio, you have to tell jokes to be considered a success?NOW we know why YOU are out of radio- yes OUT OF RADIO. And the industry is all the better for it.Over and out, UNrealist.

"So, to be on-the-air in radio, you have to tell jokes to be considered a success?"No, not if you work for NPR, or if you work on an elevator music station, or if your job is simply reading scripts and telling the time and temperature. You only need to tell jokes if you're on the air as an entertainer, as a personality. But, if you're just the guy about whom the star of the show says "And now here's Dilbert Dullard with the rip-and-read weather report", then you're "in radio". So, tell us more about how you handle your rip-and-read bits.

Whew! again, you've confirmed why you couldn't cut it in radio. thanks.

"you couldn't cut it in radio"Nope, I couldn't handle the boredom, the lack of challenge, and the meagre paychecks. Most important, I couldn't handle dealing with examples of the Peter Principle who couldn't make it anywhere other than radio pretending that reading liner cards was the ultimate professional challenge.

He has a padded room all to himself. This guy is an embittered, frustrated, ex-radio hack who's ticked at anybody who has a sound opinion because he couldn't cut it and can only throw insults up against the velcro to see what sticks. And, since it never sticks to me, he aims his hatred and bitterness at me at every opportunity. Quite sad, really.
