To begin WODS is doing very well as an oldies station, but even if they were up for possible format flip; What idiot would think that CBS radio WODS would flip classic rock in the same town where CBS owns WZLX, already a classic rock station with heritage in the market?.
First of all, I've already read about such a thing being run by Cox Radio in the Tampa Bay market. The way the trades use a wide umbrella to describe classic rock when writing about radio stations these days, Cox Radio has three classic rock stations just in the Tampa Bay area: WHPT, WPOI and WXGL.
Already WBCN plays stuff that should rightfully be the property of WZLX, stuff which no alternative rock station has any business touching: Led Zep, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Hendrix, G'N'R, Skynyrd and the like. (It wouldn't faze me to read of Cox's 97-X/WSUN playing the same classic bleep that 'BCN does, but I digress.) Now I've noticed WODS doing pretty much the same thing in recent months (outside of Christmas anyway) - OK, it isn't as bad as 'BCN (outside of Skynyrd, Aerosmith and AC/DC), but if CBS Radio does to WODS what it did to Q-105 in Tampa Bay (steady diet of Skynyrd, AC/DC, Eagles, Hendrix, etc.), count on all that happening. Thank you, "Fast Eddie" Markey (1996 Telecommunications Act), for nothing!
