Question for all you radio insiders. When do the Spring '07 numbers get announced?

I don't see breakouts unless I actually GO to a station (and that's a big price to pay)....so am curious...do the 12+ numbers translate to in-demo snapshot of KMPS vs. KKWF and KBSG vs. KJR; or are in-demo numbers much different? From 12+ looks like KMPS widened the gap; and KBSG is stronger than people here giving them credit for being...

25-54 Persons for May:

#1 KMPS
#2 KISW
#3 KPLZ
#4 KZOK
#5 KKWF

No real surprises. It remains a good battle between KMPS and KKWF with KMPS winning this month. It appears KISW and KZOK are battling to win 25-54 men for the Spring. KMPS and KPLZ battling it out for women 25-54.

KPLZ number three in ADULTS 25-54???
KISW number two in ADULTS 25-54???

The arbitron gods have a sense of humor. ya ya funny!

Interesting, the rolling trends tell a different story.

#1 KZOK
#2 KISW
#3 KKWF
#4 KMPS
#5 KMTT

But we all know we can't put any real numbers up here. I'm guessing you're looking at the extraps.

Thanks for the heads up on the R&R report. Looks like the replacement PD/MD at KBSG has grabbed the life preserver for the station while KJR continues to slip below the surface gasping for air. Gee, I guess listeners aren't as fond of the 80s as they anticipated. Hopefully the new guy at KBSG will take note and drop the eigties crap from their playlist. They aren't playing much of it, but even a little is too much. Stick with the 60s and 70s and the station will come charging back even more. I am a listener and I've come back. If they increase the 80s mix, I will flee once more.

Sorry, but like it or not, the new oldies stations are now 70's & 80's driven. My thinking on this has completely changed. I always thought the 50+ audience was still viable, but you can't change advertisers views of such things. Look at the former WCBS-FM in New York. Dropped 50's, 60's oldies two years ago, became "jack", and now are going back to oldies. EXCEPT: this is a new version of oldies that will target 70's & 80's. It's the new reality. KBSG, who knows? My guess is you will hear 80's tunes on this station.

Couple of points. The numbers you see are the current extraps for May which provide a good snapshot for the month. It helps to see if a format flip or adjustment did anything? Did a marketing campaign work? Who won the month in the Country battle? How do the AM's stack up when sports is factored in? You get the idea.

The real way to judge numbers is on a four book, but the month to month extraps are interesting. Fun to note that just a trend ago this board had written off KMPS and KPLZ, now they both are back in the top three 25-54 adults. They probably weren't as low as the last couple of trends and probably aren't as high as this one. It all evens out. KRWM is probably not as bad as this May would indicate and I doubt KQMV is a one share station like they delivered in May, nor are they the 3 plus share from the month before. KBSG had a modest increase with their 70's/80's approach, but are still sub-three share. KBKS is sub-one share now. That trend down has been going on over four books.

The big winners over a four book in Seattle remain KZOK, KISW and KMPS for adult males. KRWM, KPLZ and KMPS for adult females. KUBE wins the 18-34 cell. Has been that way for years.

You do realize the ratings period sample for this trend was taken before KBSG's 80s shift, right?

Right?

Now that is ya ya funny. That was the old KBSG with the old PD. Ya ya ya.
KBKS's decline started in Spring 06. Whatever you may say about MOVIN, they clearly ate KBKS for lunch. The station was in decline anyway and MOVIN put the nail in the coffin and has beaten KBKS in every book since summer in the 25-34 core. KPLZ's flipped format in April and the big numbers came out of KRWM mostly, a tiny bit from KBKS and MOVIN. But it is only one trend, so I wouldn't count their aging male PD a genius just yet. Get real folks, cause truly mammaknowsbest. ya ya good. I will give props to Becky at KMPS for stompin on WOLF in May, that surprised me. Yaya good, go girl!

I had to register just to make a point! ;)

Everyone knows that this all means nada until PPM comes to Seattle, right? Start counting down to a major shift in the ratings when they become...wait for it....accurate!

And with all the 'this station is gonna flip' talk, please tell me that you realize that ratings mean jack if the station is making money, right! Ratings will rarely affect a stations future, unless they impact the sales. We could have a polka/rap/techno station at number one, and if they cant sell it, GONE! And the same goes for the bottom, if you can sell your station the numbers mean nothing. Not saying that they dont help, very much for those national buys, but a true sales team doesnt need them.

Remember...show-BIZ....you cant have the show without the biz.

Give her props, but don't give her any credit. She's clueless and if she had anything to bring the station wouldn't have let the WOLF make such gains.

Hang on their cowboy. I am not sure there was much Becky could do. WOLF came on with a young/superior morning show, tight music rotation, a produced sound targeted to 18-34 and long sweeps of music. The strategy could not be defensed. I am sure Becky would have loved to cut the commercial load from 15 to 8, which is what the WOLF was doing the first six months. Do you really thing corproate would have let her! hah. Were they going to fire Ichabod who is loved by the 45-55 core of KMPS leaving 18-34 wide open. Hah! Were they going to abandon their legendary calls for an 18-34 leaning WOLF or CaT or Dawg? Hah! Would corporate let her spend 500,000 in a book on TV, while cutting spots and firing the morning show? hah! Becky may or may not be the sharpest tool in the shed ( I don't know her personally) but even a programming guru would have trouble with that kind of attack. KMPS had gotten fat and happy with too many commercials, an older core and aging morning show. The rest is history.

Becky did cut KMPS back on how many breaks they have in an hour since KKWF came about though, which was a smart move. KKWF is running three breaks an hour. (and all three over 4 minutes in length.. 'at least 50 minutes of fresh country every hour' my a$$). With KMPS only breaking twice an hour, it allows them the opportunity to snag an extra quarter hour in Arbitron here and there when KKWF breaks at :20 after.

But it will be interesting to see what turns out when the PPM takes effect.
