ratings

oh where oh where are all the posts about the spring ratings book ... wasn't today the day. Saw the 12+ on allaccess. I thought for sure the board would be screaming about how bad clear channel raleigh screwed up RDU, how stupid entercom is, that magic 94 got shafted because they are such a great oldies station and oh yeah ztk is the greatest station in the triad ... maybe, just maybe someone who knows something will post some worthwhile information and comments about the shape of greensboro and raleigh radio.

Would love to see some daypart breakdowns. No doubt, SJS benefited from Hannity for a couple of months of the book. This book does not reflect the new morning lineup.

Entercom had a piece on the streets saying Wolf beat TQR and Simon throttled WMAG everywhere but AM drive. Pretty impressive if true. Looks like Clear Channel f'd up there too. Charlotte was dismal. Raleigh had 2 success stories G-105 and WRVA. Best of the bunch.

Somebody is obviously pulling your leg, because that is probably impossible. Ya better check your source!

If you check the "Radio and Records" website, you will get a breakdown on the
ratings for North Carolina's Triad and Triangle.
The biggest surprise of the numbers i saw was how WTQR has fallen in the last
four books!, "The Wolf" could be poised to overtake them when the fall book
starts next month.

Virtually anything is possible these days in the Triad market.

Be careful, however, of counting TQR out! Entercom still has plenty of time to screw it up!

I agree with you Christopher Chen. I've seen some of their hires (and worked with them) and they are second rate at best. I also don't think Entercom does much to train them, either. It's the old revolving door. Then when these salespeople have made all the rounds, Clear Channel, Dick, then Entercom, they hire them at Majic 94.1, who I think pays a salary. They work there until someone gets wise, then they go to a different form of media, like print (Thrifty Nickle, Talking Phone Book) or one of the TV stations hires them.

I have been a long time reader of this board, but I have never posted. Radio is a personal and emotional medium, therefore a personal and emotional business, therefore hard to be objective.

However, I have to respond to Maskman here ... because you are wrong regarding what you said about the sales people at Entercom. How do I know ... because I am an Entercom Greensboro employee. We have 22 people on staff here in Greensboro .... 15 of them have been on staff for 6 or more years ....4 have been on staff for 12 years, 6 have been on staff 8 years, we even have a sales team member who has been here 15 years ... it is not a revolving door here. I have worked for a number of companies in the business, Taft Broadcasting, Bahakel, Davidson Broadcasting, Sinclair TV, Sinclair Radio and Entercom, I will say this about Entercom (I am an 8 year vet to this group) I have had more training opportunities, more resources, more team work, more stability here than anywhere I have been employed or visited (I've been courted by them all) .... I have friends throughout this market and I hear the stories and the misery is obvious ... I am grateful to be here and hope to finish my career here at Entercom Greensboro.

That's touching...you must have a really good account list. ;D
You should hear what some of your clients say about your salespeople.

I would imagine it's pretty grim at Clear Channel right now. All four of their stations are down 12+. I'm sure there're still some stories among the demos, but things aren't looking too good overall at CC. Without a full-time GM and with two of their cash cows under attack, Entercom might just overtake WTQR in another couple of books. It's desperation time!

MaskMan ... you get "good account lists" when you provide customer service and results, so yea, I have "good account list" and I have a great job with a great company. A company that supports me and has promoted me a number of times, a company that respects my opinion and my clients opinions. A company that I respect and my clients respect. Enough said !

I'm glad there is a salesperson who is happy with the company she works for, you
don't find many these days who can say that because i've seen first hand the
turnover in radio sales, and it's a shame.

Still carrying the torch, huh? ;D

I agree, it is good that theadgal feels that way about her company. And, I have no doubts that she has a good account list because she is a good salesperson. BUT, that's not true of all of her co-workers. You hear things on the street....sure, anyone can hear a single instance...but I'm not talking about a single instance. And, yes, I've heard some good things about Entercom from people who work or have worked there. I'm just saying that some of the sales staff could use some work.

 I've never heard anything "Good" about Entercom..

This sudden appearance by an Entercom employee bolstering and defending them is strange and not adding up. She supposedly reads this forum but has missed this?
I heard today that the GM (Brent Milar) at Entercom has forbidden his employees to participate in Radio-Info. While that isn't particularly surprising....I want to know how he would know. The purpose of these boards is to provide a forum for people to discuss radio...anonymously, if they choose. I think most of the posters here are pretty passionate about the industry. How can BM stifle people from participating if they want to? Especially if they do it from the privacy of their own homes. Guess he's afraid info might be leaked, but, well, that's part of Radio-Info, too.

She(or he) has given itself away, if this is a real person, to anyone who works there and knows anythiing about anyone I susppect trouble for that person for reading these boards and posting. That is unless it is management itself and that is likely.

A point about an issue raised on the thread the quote is taken from: at Entercom all internet traffic, phones, voice mail and e-mail is scoured. Along with the hidden cameras and mics it is no wonder mangement knew who and when and what was on these messages boards.
BTW this is legal and Entercom is within their rights to do this in their place of business.
