Wow...are you a Mensa member?
Why? do you disagree with Radio Radio's statement. Very accurate.
Ho...I was just having fun with the Harry Wolper....duh....WHHH signal strength is of no relevance as 99.9% of their fan base lives within Marion County....he was unknowingly playing the part of Mr. Obvious. I think you mis-read my pithy retort.
Calling that a "pithy retort" is a bit generous, considering that while it may be an obvious answer, it clearly wasn't obvious to the person who asked the question as to why WHHH was doing so well despite not having a signal that covers Carmel/Greenwood all that well. So while the answer is obvious to some, obviously it wasn't obvious to everyone. (How's THAT for overusing "obvious"!)
As for RadioHo's assessment of WHHH's audience, there are plenty of suburbanite-kid "posers" who HAVE plenty of money and listen to WHHH (or, their parents have money). And even of the types of people RadioHo mentioned, I'm sure plenty of that group have iPods and the like. It may not be as great a percentage as the rest of the population, but it's there.
Without dissecting the numbers, I can't prove this with data, but just because WHHH is winning the 18-34 demo doesn't mean there aren't fewer younger people listening overall. WHHH is just getting the greatest share of those listening.
Of course, WHHH isn't just doing well in that demo. In fact, WHHH was 9th in the summer and spring books in the 35-54 demo. The summer 35-54 share was better than WTTS and WYJZ. The spring 35-54 share was tied with the Track (ugh) and BETTER than WIBC and WTTS. And although beating WTTS at anything probably isn't difficult, I think we'd agree that 35-54 is a bit closer to the WIBC and WTTS target audience than to WHHH's. So it's just not all about the gang-banger/white trashy types.
(Disclaimer: Cherry-picking numbers from a single book can be dangerous, so I'll include that WHHH was 11th in 35-54 over a 4-book average, ahead of WZPL and WTTS, and half a point behind WIBC and the Track).
(EDITED to remove specific share numbers from older books--not sure we're allowed to include those)
