Geez, HBG/York ratings are published publically for the first time in a while and this board's awfully quiet! GTY back to the 12's in York. WARM, SOX, and YCR all in the 5's. Something's gotta give!

Hey Rock

You are correct.......GTY 9.3 / Peak & X tie for 2nd 6.8.

About Harrisburg: How is the listenership of "The Touch" being credited? Does the credit go to WNNK, since the translator is rebroadcasting WNNK's HD2? This practice of creating new stations by using translators to rebroadcast AMs or HD2s is something Arbitron will have to sort out.

How long can the two CHRs continue to cancel each other out before one gives up?

And a respectable showing for WHYL-AM. Always nice to see some life in the AM band. Congrats BL!

Plenty of nibbling going on of GTY. Lots of other country stations showing up taking a share here or there.

Great showing again by the X. Peak up there too.

But a big story under the radar was LAN #2 W 25-54.........in York........

The two stations that should be attracting this audience.....WARM and Rose looked pretty pathetic....

Thought the Rose would do ALOT better.....

Either lots of kids on summer break controlling mom's radio.......OR...........

not happy with the A/C choices

Oh well-----Santa arrives soon.....

If I were 103.3, 101.3, 92.7, and 106.7 I would start playing Christmas music ASAP!

And don't give me "it's ONLY the SUMMER book" crap...These signals continue to under perform.

Congrats to everyone at Clear Channel Harrisburg who despite all the cuts continue to outperform the entire market.

I'm looking for a big smacked a$$ emoticon but don't see one. WHoops, although radio-info shares the blame. They have not yet posted Su09 and I was reading the far right column which is Sp09. My bad. They have Harrisburg updated but not York. Apparently AllAccess has it, so I'm going there now to get right.

ANd thanks, John---it's nice to see my "tweaks" pay off. Hang on, v3.0 is coming! You're now hearing 2.3.

If you want to hear what AM should be doing, check out WHYL 960. They have the right mix for their demos with their blend of Adult Standards, softer Oldies, and light AC from the 70's. Was listening to an Oldies station that payed 50's and 60's stuff and heard Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen. For some reason I can't picture someone who was a teen when that song come out who would still relate to it today. That person would be about 60 or so. I can however picture that same person relating to and enjoying something like Cherish by the Association. Anyway....the station sounds great! Onward and upward.

WHYL sounds pretty good. Like their AM competitor in Carlisle, WIOO, it would be great if WHYL could get a low powered FM to keep this music going at night.

Yeah..I think there are similarities but one big difference is NO DISCO.

I've heard "I Will Survive" on LAN. Also, it would not surprise me if they play some of the Barry White songs.

Thanks BossJock! As for WLAN's ABC Stardust, it's OK, but they've always had a tendency to go over the edge a bit, even back in the 90's. Just recently I heard them play Benny Mardones "Into the Night" in AM drive and they did not edit out his screeching toward the end! WHYL plays McCartney's "No More Lonely Nights", for example, but when it gets to the guitar solo at the end, we fade it early. There are a number of artists where I'm only playing one or two hits out of their catalog because the rest just don't fit....yet. And I have a few edits, like the Buckinghams' "Susan" where the ridiculous psychodelic :30 in the middle is gone! (Did the same thing at KBO back on the 1230 Gold days!)

And I have heard Barry White on WLAN. The old saying is still true---what you don't play can't hurt you! I'm up around 1500+ titles and still adding, and still finding good stuff to add! Rules: 1) No loud guitars 2) No screechy vocals, and 3) No disco.

Just a note ABC no longer owns the 24 hour networks they are
now controlled by Citadel Media.
I have always felt the quality of talent on the former ABC/Citadel
networks has been very good and with regard to the music
there is constant music testing going on so each of those formats
is thoroughly researched.
They also provide excellent websites and from a sales perspective
quarterly print out of calls to their 800 exchange detailing listenership
in a given listening area. At WHVR for instance we've learned over 70
percent of the contest participants and requests come from Maryland
phone exchanges.

In looking at the York numbers.....I notice a couple of interesting things that could indicate possible format holes. The CHR/MAINSTREAM numbers of WLAN-FM and KISS add up to a 6 share. Both are out of market Clear Channel stations. Add up all the COUNTRY numbers that are NOT WGTY's. You get a 9.8! Clear Channel has a combined 14.1 share of the York market......with no actual stations in the York market. Just a few fun facts to ponder.

That is really interesting

WARM should flip to CHR

WSOX should flip to country

Perhaps, that's the answer for Cumulus in York

IN York/Harrisburg, that would give Cumulus:

WNNK-----Hot A/C
WTPA......Classic Rock
WARM......CHR
92.1........Rhythmic CHR
WSOX.....Country

Not a bad set of formats.

Just need some management changes in York to fix things then. A really good country programmer to challenge a couple legendary stations: WGTY and WIOV

A "hip" young, street savvy CHR PD who believes it takes MORE than just music to create a successful radio brand. Someone who understands the digital platform. Someone who values air talent. A 40 something "A/C" guy isn't going to be the answer.

But launching one, even two new stations now may be too much for Cumulus/York to handle. It won't be cheap to do this correctly.
