lets re ask the question in a different way. how many successful country outlets are there ratings wise, who include gold music programming pre 89, within a mix of currents, recurrents/new? someone?? KGY96.9 programs the "real country" sattelite feed which does the mix. although i aint critiqued them in years. ive never been for the bastardization of classic country as a seperate format. obviously in todays day and age, much of the classics dont work next to the latest over produced cosmopolitan country one hit flavors of the month. but, some do!! my hot button issue for decades has always been the mega outlets/owners/consultants who put the kabosh on the pre 89(pre garth, pre alan, pre clint), and treated the likes of george, waylon, johnny, tanya, dwight, skaggs etc like red headed step children at a japanese family reunion. this alienated a whole new era of country listeners to our proud and recent country music past. merle, waylon, paycheck, hank jr, reba should never be forced to be weeded out into a seperate format. and now as we look through 2010 goggles, the garths, alans, rebas and clints are being treated as the next group of aging has beens, in many big city hot young force fed markets. yet all these artists still put out new releases. country music is America's great music tradition, and should be tied together amongst the recent decades. if this includes a seperate sunday night show, dayparted heavier on the classics, that works to. hey, johnny cash is still a hot entity, and so is willie. you think ratings would be killed, and listeners would tune out if the latest card/promo reading empty suit at kpms announced, "coming up next a classic willie, or johnny cash song". im for real country formats that tie it all together, with a real thinking PD/MD, who are intelligent gate keepers of the old/gold/new/current/recurrent music. we aint got that round here, so i long left the seattle AM/FM listening scene for the joys of XM/sirius sattelite, and ccwifi internet radio. my 5,000+ hard copy album/CD library, works good to, when i need a good dose of merle or waylon, or tammy.
