Ravens To WFED

Starting this season, the Baltimore Ravens will be heard on a Washington radio affiliate, Bonneville's WFED (1500 AM), a.k.a. Federal News Radio.

Gee, I wonder how this will sit with Ray Lewis? ;D

In all seriousness, why now? Why didn't Bonneville make this move years ago when the 1500 frequency was in its ill-fated "3WT" phase? Not like football play-by-play would have saved that format, by any means, but it would have made more sense for a station like that.

1500 is the DC affiliate of the Ravens.

105.7 is a Baltimore station, and 98 Rock is the Baltimore affiliate of the Ravens.

Wait, why is Washington DC allowed to have a Ravens affiliate? Doesn't that conflict since Washington has their own NFL team with the Redskins? Or do they treat the two markets like New York with the Giants and Jets?

My guess is that it's because Washington falls within 75 miles of the Ravens' stadium's location. The Fox station in Washington may carry the few Ravens games as part of Fox's regular-season package.

There's no NFL rule prohibiting you from airing another team's games in market. WFAN years ago aired Eagles games; the Giants radio network had an affiliate in Boston in the mid-'90s.

The New York Yankees baseball team has some affiliates in some really far flung locations. Anchorage - Alaska, Wilmington - North Carolina, Las Vegas - Nevada (en ingles y espanol), Conway Arkansas, and even in Iowa!!! Granted none of these areas have their own teams, most of them can be considered territories of other teams.
