"Ray Brown" Has Left The Building

The hippogryph.com 'Forum' reports that longtime WCRB announcer "Ray Brown's" bio is no longer listed on that station's website. (I use quotes because I don't know if it's his real name.) Only time will tell if he's left the South Street Snoozer for good, but if so, the question is: was his departure HIS idea, or Nassau's? It strikes me that he's the only staff member there who could find work at some other radio or TV station, and I do believe his pipes can be heard under several TV spots and even promos on WBZ-TV. Could this also preface cost-cutting at Nassau now that the Entercomm deal apparently fell through?

Regardless of the reason, Ray's departure is a major loss! :'(

Having worked with Ray several years ago, I know that he was not only an excellent broadcaster, but a true gentleman. DEFINITELY NASSAU'S LOSS! :-[

Do you know if Ray Brown is his real name? And remember, it hasn't been confirmed that he's gone yet...just that his bio no longer appears on the website.

Isn't that always the reason a single bio is pulled from a website? I can see an entire staff's bios disappearing as a result of a corporate decision not to include a staff page (Why? To keep egos in check, maybe, or to make it harder for those pesky listeners to e-mail the station.), but just one announcer? Sounds like Brown is gone.

I beleve Ray still does his show " Talkin' Birds" Sundays on 95-9 WATD .

OK, it's Monday afternoon, and the announcers who have been on so far this afternoon have been Art Steinburg and Mark Edwards...no Ray.

I thought you hated this station....what are you doing listening (or caring) about anything that goes on there?

"Loathing" would be a better word...and the name of the announcer or announciatrix is displayed in the upper right-hand corner of wcrb.com's website, thus it is not necessary to risk a non-surgical lobotomy by actually LISTENING to the station. Nassau "management" has claimed that there's a huge audience for the drek they broadcast...if the collapse of the Entercom cash infusion makes WCRB uneconomical to operate, this means THEY LIED. (Oh, I just read they got a cash infusion via an LMA on a station they own in northern NJ. Anybody own some Nassau stock?)

Somewhere in the memory banks I remember Ray (using that handle by the way) working overnights at WBZ. I don't remember if it was music or talk, or if was weekends following Larry or Janet Jagalian. But he was at 1170 SF road.

Why are you even checking the station web site?

If you'll go back to the original post, I reference hippogryph.com/forum that covers classical or "psuedo-classical" radio broadcasting. Someone there had the tip. Now the scuttlebut is that WCRB is once again up for sale, and if so, Nassau has the reduce costs by jettisoning pay checks.

Unfortunately for the city of Boston, Nassau continues to make awful decisions...most recently to let Maestro Ray Brown go. Foolish and worrisome.
