RAY TALIAFERRO

I miss you man, someone offer him a job

I agree. I listened for over 30 years. There's nothing interesting in his old time slot now. I really really seriously miss the Ray Taliaferro Show. Didn't always agree, but it was always good radio. And I didn't care for poetry night, but it beats everything else that's on now.
I don't have satellite radio, but I'd subscribe if Ray was on it. I'd pay to hear Ray.
I sure hope Ray finishes that book I heard he's writing. I think I heard it from him on his show

As I miss real talent on local radio, I, too, Miss Ray Taliaferro.

His work on the air speaks for itself - solid pro. I wager he is one of the most sincere, honest, contributing broadcasters we may know.

I didn't get to know Ray well enough personally to hang out, "talk stink" and share a BBQ, as our career paths led to studio doors which opened to different radio microphones. I bumped into him at the occasional Broadcast Legends Luncheon like you did, but it was at a funeral that I got the gist of the man's true composition.

We happened to be seated together at the church in the same pew. A whisper from a friend quickly informed me of his name and affiliation. At the same moment a prayer was offered for which everyone in attendance held hands and bowed their heads. Ray grabbed my hand and held it throughout.

Like a handshake can tell a lot about a person, so did his grip during that prayer. It was unwaveringly firm yet gentle. I'll bet there are those who describe Ray that way.

This one event in our lives informed me with certainty, this is a good guy, I want to have him around for years.

I used to listen to Ray overnights in 1988 on the way home from Santa Cruz after being on the air for 6 hours playing New Age music! There were many nights coming home on Highway 17 and almost falling asleep behind the wheel, but tuning into Ray on that ride home kept my senses alert all the way home. It was great radio for sure!

I liked how Ray wasn't afraid to criticize black people. The reason I say that is that some people said he was racist against whites. What I mean is, he's not a hypocrite.Thagt's one of many things I liek about Ray. He spent a few hours talking about how Reggie White is a bigot. I have some of that on tape. He criticized Willie Brown A LOT. Jessie Jackson & President Obama too. And probably lots of other people. I didn't listen as much as I would have liked. Although I listened a lot, it was past my bed time.

I loved the fact that if I couldn't sleep I had something live and local to listen to. Although listening to Ray would often keep me awake to hear what he'd say next.

Long overnights just aren't the same without him.....I especially loved how he could rip those overzealous right wing dingbats a new one whenever they got too cocky for their own good and his show monologues. The jazz and poetry nights were awesome.

I would LOVE to see him return.

Poetry Night was OK. Now I wish I had listened to it more. I was always disappointed when it was on because I loved his regular show so much.
I liked his music, but not for a whole show.
As far as his special shows go, I liked "Prayer Meeting Night". He did that a lot in the late 1990s.

I think only his close friends call him that... :)

Meanwhile, I don't particularly have a hankering to hear RayTal anymore. For many years he repeated the same stuff at the beginning of each broadcast. I wasn't compelled to listen.

Well I WAS going to say "Ray Talibanferro" but I thought that was a bit much.... Issues aside, he was just a lousy broadcaster.
