Ray Thomas of The Moody blues

One of my favorite groups and an excellent example of Rock that no longer exists.

From the article:

"The band's roots lay in blues and R&B, but its 1964 hit "Go Now" was a foretaste of the lush, orchestral sound that came to be called progressive rock."

Loud snort on that one. "Go Now" was a cover of an R&B tune and there was nothing lush and orchestral about the arrangement at all. What it was was their first major American hit, the rest of which came after 1969, when the lush, orchestral "Days of Future Passed" LP came out. The AP writer most likely was far too young to know (or care) anything about a baby boomer band like the Moodies. What is surprising is that the error wasn't caught on the copy desk, where baby boomers who are still in the business generally wind up.

It exists in that they currently are touring.

What I meant was that type of music is no longer being released. Hell, I know some Doo Wop groups are still touring as well but you don't hear their music anywhere except in concert either.

But that type of music is consistently being released. Just as Mozart piano concertos are still being released. He still gets radio airplay if you tune around a little bit. Same with these guys. Their music exists if you want it to exist.

The Moodies are not releasing new material. I know it is being played, very occasionally, on radio.

And I think it would be more accurate to say "Mozart covers are being released". Rosy ain't writing new material. He's dead, Jim.

But you said the music no longer exists. Unless someone blew up the masters and destroyed all the old records, it does.

Yes there are cover bands who do Moody Blues music. I see them listed all the time. The music still exists, but Justin Bieber doesn't know who they are.

It's a shame they didn't make their way into the R&R Hall Of Fame before he retired in 2002.

The R&R Hall of Fame is just possibly the most ill-named building in America as many of the performers and groups had nothing to do with R&R.

The correct title is "The Jan Wenner's Favorite Artists Hall Of Fame." :D

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?
