Rays baseball on "97.9 FM" ?

About 20 years ago or so the Astro games were heard on station in the DFW area so it isn't new though it is uncommon. When 98.7 starts beating 620 consistently, CC will move the translators to 620. Just a matter of time. Lastly, I expect the Rays to eventually leave the market.

820 has been running promos for Yankees baseball, and they definitely carried them last year. I remember because people were making accusations that they weren't turning their power all the way down at night. Anyway, I think they're carrying them again this year. If you go to the Yankees website it says 1040 is part of their network, but that also says that they were on 1040 last year.

Here's a link to 820's website that talks about their 2012 coverage.

I haven't heard any "the Yankees Are Coming, The Yankees Are Coming" promotions on 820 this year. The WWBA webisite posting IS from last year, and 2013 is a new season. (and as I write this I am listening to Oakland beating the Yanks 5-4 on 1040). Why the WHBO website is not promoting it, I don't know, but I would if I was running things. 1040 needs to make all the noise it can.

The Rays won't be leaving the market without a major collapse in attendance, similar to the Expos after the strike. The 2027 lease would also complicate any threatened move, I would bet. And the question would then still be, where will they draw better? Orlando is a possibility, but the broadcast market is at least 1/3 smaller than Tampa/St.Petersburg. Unless there was some dream of moving to Puerto Rico or Long Island, MLB would be leaving a top twenty market to go to... Portland or Charlotte?
