Rays Radio contract extended

According to The Tampa Bay Times today, it was reported that the Rays have a agreement for a multiyear extension of the radio deal with WDAE-AM 620. I believe the Rays buy their time from Clear Channel. I wonder if CC were thinking 98.7 could have gotten the Rays after 2013 season.

Good move. Best AM signal here. Yes, without the Rays, Lightning or Buccaneers the future at 98.7 is qustionable as a sports station.

Speaking of sports stations, I tuned into 1250 WHNZ sunday afternoon for the top of the hour CBS Radio News cast, only to hear Fox Sports News, followed by Ben Mallers show. Has CC opted to clear some FSR on 1250 to keep Fox happy, or will we have a fourth AM sports station in town?

A part of me wishes that 98.7 had gotten the Rights. 620 does not have a very good signal inside of the Trop for listening to the PBP. The 98.7 signal would do quite nicely.

Of course, virtually any FM signal originating from the Center high above the field inside the Trop would do better than that sorry excuse at 1260.

Years ago when 910 carried the Lightning games they had installed a low wattage transmitter at the Trop (the Thunderdome).

I think you are thinking of the 970 signal. It was on 960 and it worked. When they relinquished the Rays to 1250, they moved the 960 to 1260 but it was not good. The range is much less and the audio is in the grass when its there.

There are places I can't hear either signal because of the electrical interference from TVs and signs.

Yes, I agree. Their interaction and banter is topical and relevant.

...and every once in awhile, I can hear Dave admit to liking the Trop.
