Rays Radio

Weekend Rays Day Games are on 1520 WBZW. Monday-Friday Games and Weekend Night Games are on 660 WORL.

Thank you for the updated Tampa Bay Rays information. How's the 1520 signal in and around O-Town?

Came in from Leesburg tonight and could not pick it up in Zellwood. It started to come in at the 429 and disappeared at Princeton and I-4. 790 Leesburg made it all the way to the 414 with a grade a night signal. Also the Rays were on 660 and 1520 tonight.

At least you have two choices for Tampa Bay Rays baseball in Orlando, now. I thought maybe 1520 would have a better signal than you descibed, but then again, WBZW is only 350 watts directional at night. That probably isn't going to go very far. I would imagine WORL's 1kw at night on 660 may have a far better signal, making it a much more desirable choice for Rays fans.

Good to hear we are getting out pretty well at night on 790. Our day signal is a monster, but good to hear the night signal is better than most right now. High school football starts tomorrow night so it actually matters a little more right now

What's your daytime programming these days?

Daytime programming is in a state of flux right now as I am coming in to take over WLBE. Need to keep what revenue there is so all of the existing programming needs to stay for at least the near future. We have Party Line (shopper show) that has been on for over 30 years at 9-11 weekdays, followed by local programming from 11-1, a health informercial at 1 PM, and we switch to sports at 2 PM through the overnight until 9 AM. Basically it is local from 9A-1P, junk at 1 PM, and sports most of the rest of the time. Current GM is 81 years old, so you can imagine what I am dealing with. The place is a mess financially and physically, but I came there because the signal and dial position are strong. We will see.

If I recall correctly when I lived in Orlando in the 90's they had a morning guy who spent a good portion of his show selling Tahitian noni juice...

Always thought that station could have been so much more if run better... good luck....

I didn't realize that Mac McNair was 81 years old. Lord bless him. I wish you the very best with WLBE. You have one of the best AM signals in the state, and it sounds, from what you described, that you pretty much already have sports in place around the clock with the exception of the midday hours. I'm just curious who is hosting the Party Line these days? I believe Bob Andrews started that program years ago and was the long-time host until his passing.

You are right about Bob Andrews - a local icon in radio for years. His early show was called Breakfast Club and then he went into Party Line, the swap shop show. We now have Mary Graham, who used to be on K92 on the weekends and was a traffic reporter as well. She is fabulous - the show fits her well.

Leesburg Yellow Jacket football begins tonight at 6 PM on The Mighty 790 - how 'bout them Yellow Jackets!
