RCN leaving THE BRONX?

There was a note in my apartment complex (which is a co-op) stating that very soon RCN would cease cable and Internet operations, to be replaced by (gulp!) Cablevision.

I've contacted RCN about this and they allegedly have "no idea" what is going on. The management company that runs the buildings stated that RCN sent them a letter stating that they were ceasing operations. Yet on BOTH sides, NO ONE knows when the system will be leaving. And as I walked into the building, there were sales reps of Cablevision just happy to sign people on to their CRAP!

Unfortunately I can't get DirecTV or Dish because my terrace (which is the only place I can legally place the satellite dish) faces EAST and you need the SOUTHWEST view to get the clear picture. Apparently DirecTV does offer a multi-dwelling system where they would place a master dish on one of the buildings and people who don't have DirecTV could subscribe via that. I did tell management about this and they might look into it.

I know a lot of people in the Newport section of Jersey City have begun switching their cable service to Comcast instead of RCN.

Hmm....maybe this is a systemwide thing. I know RCN was going through some financial difficulties. But then again, on the cable local avails, you would see spots for a gay channel on RCN and for their music download service.

So in that sense, I don't know WHAT's going on with them.
