RDL EZ-MCP1 Mic Compressor for Remotes

I want to recommend this gem to those of you who are trying to solve level control problems at sport remotes (or any remote). The RDL EZ-MCP1 is a mic compressor that is placed between the headsets and mixer. I ordered a pair after reading a review in Radio magazine by Chris Wygal; he mentioned that they were excellent in controlling levels, and indeed they are. I've tried these at two games now, the result being that both the play-by-play and color guy can talk low or scream, yet the levels are consistent and the compression is transparent. The best part is that it has cured the "knob tweakers" who tried to ride the gain but never adjusted the gain structure properly. They now just take these into the field, plug in, and go. Essentially plug and play. If you have remote level issues that you can't solve, have a look at these. I think you'll like them.

Except for those damn Stick-Ons! Not that the quality was bad, but how many stations have those evil little bricks buried under console counters and piles of wire? Where did the audio levels go? Oh wait, there is a hidden Stick-On in the program line placed there over a decade ago who's wall wort bit the dust. Of course!

Of course, that's because the Engineer didn't mount them properly. RDL makes rack-mount options for their Stick-Ons.

And more often than not with RDL Stick-on's, that is the case. In my view even with their mounting chassis, building a station infrastructure where you rely on those little bricks for important links in the audio chain, is pretty Whiskey Tango.
