RDS DTS on car radios

I just bought a new Hyundai and its hd radio with DTS has led me to good things and questions. I love having station logos but sometimes they make no sense. I live in the Atlanta market and before I went out of town and every logo made sense but now at least one logo wont correct. I went to visit my parents in the Greenville Spartanburg radio market and after being back 3 weeks the logo for 93.3 in HD wont change back to the joy fm though when I turn off the HD the Joy Fm logo shows. Plus I get the same on 93.7 where the B 93.7 Greenville logo shows up on 93.7 when I have HD activated but the Fan 93.7 logo shows when i turn hd off. When I passed through Columbia the 104.7 hd logo updated to theirs and when I got back into Fish territory the logo on hd and non hd changed back to the Fish. On my parents property I was a bit too far to get the 96.1 HD signal so the 96.1 the beat logo never left my radio even though i was listening to 96.1 out of charlotte. Do you have to have an HD station to knock off another hd station from the logo with DTS. I hate seeing the planet rocks logo while in Atlanta on 93.3 but I dont want to turn off hd. I will be in Fort Mill Sc in about 10 days so I will see if 96.1 will actually change to the Charlotte signal.

As one of the engineers for WVFJ 93.3 in Atlanta, we don’t send any HD logos, we do have DTS autostage setup with our logo.

Unfortunately your car radio will probably hold onto the last HD radio logo it received per frequency, and since we don’t send any HD logos it will probably not update without resetting your radio to factory settings. While not the best solution that’s the only one I know of! I hope this helps, and thank you for listening!

thanks for that info. I barely got a His Radio Z logo for WLFJ Hd2 but I was wondering why their was no logos for Joy worship or LF Radio. Im going back to the greenville market soon so I will see if the His Radio Praise stations have a logo. I got the His radio logo for 92.1 Columbia. 94.1 Greenwood, 89.3 Greenville and 90.9 ne GA.So I take it RTN stations do not send HD radio logo like wvfj doesnt . So Im stuck with 93.3 the Planet rocks logo unless I go somewhere where 93.3 is in HD to change my radio. Ive was a fan of the music but the station was not great during the 90s compared to KLTY DFW until the J 93.3 time and the return to the Joy FM after making 93.3 non commercial. When Salem traded to get 104.7 in Atlanta in 2000 I asked them to please make it a FISH like Orange County CA because i wanted a KLTY like station but the Joy FM GA and FL are great now

I’m not a fan of DTS Autostage and the logos and data that is sent. I’ve seen quite a few instances of this messing up quite a bit and pulling the wrong data or the logos not updating as they should.

I have a 2020 Hyundai Elantra and if you head to a different market with HD on the same frequency as an HD station in your hometown, it sometimes will take quite a while for the radio to update when you arrive back home, especially when your local station doesn’t transmit logos to replace the archived logo. I also noticed that when HD stations have long station names (the station name field will appear blank), my radio doesn’t really know how to match the archived logos and will sometimes randomly throw the logos on the wrong station. Again, this only happens when the radio station broadcasting in HD decides to use a long station name instead of calls or a short 4-5 letter name.

You might want to check to see if there is a software update for your radio, which you should be able to find below:

I've had RDS text pop up from nearby out-of-market FM's pop up while listening to a local "LP-FM" station. It did not interfere with the local but it was funny to see the wrong RDS pop up.

I have a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. I know what you are talking about, and while I haven't tried it, it would seem like this would be the easiest fix.

To preface, I live in the San Diego market. My parents live in the Monterey market and my sister lives in the Fresno market. Some non-HD stations in San Diego match HD frequencies in some of the other markets, so my preset for 100.7 in San Diego (non-HD) displays the logo and the name for the 100.7 in Monterey (which is HD) . Also, in some cases the San Diego stations in HD transmit their logos but transmit a blank space where the primary station name would be so my preset for 103.7 has the KSON logo (San Diego) but says "The Beat" in the name field (103.7 in Fresno, where I was about seven weeks ago).

My guess would be to delete the (wrong) presets and then try re-storing the station to see if that fixes the issue, OR see if you can do a complete re-scan of the stations in your area and see if that's the fix. I know in my car there is a way to auto-scan receivable stations which will overwrite the presets. If you haven't tried these, let me know if that works.

so there is a little orange icon by the HD radio Button, ive seen videos, that if you press it it will refresh the DTS data so might wanna try that just in case

My 2018 Jetta had HD Radio with station logo displays, but the logos were very hit-or-miss. WNYC-FM liked to change their station logo on a per-program basis, so for example if you set the preset for them during "All Things Considered", it would permanently show the ATC logo on the preset. And at some point the iHeart stations in NYC stopped sending out their logos entirely, so if you had the preset for them stored before then it would still show the logo, but if you created a new preset for one of them, you wouldn't get any logo. And as mentioned above, if you drove out of town and another station on the same frequency came into range, you'd suddenly see the "foreign" station's logo appear on your preset.
