RDS Encoder character length? Limited to only 8 characters?

We're looking at adding an RDS encoder to be updated dynamically. I'm assuming we'll be scrolling text. Are all of the current units in production (encoders and radios) limited to a maximum of 8 characters at a time? We're looking at an Inovonics unit because we've always had outstanding service from them in the past. Are there any stand-out units being produced, or do they all pretty much do the same thing? ???

A lot of folks are using the BURK RDSMASTER (Audemat-Aztec 810). We have the Burk version. It works satifactorily for us. It's not the easiest thing to adjust the subcarrier injection level (lots of guesswork because its by mV), but with a mod monitor, its pretty quick work. Its been execedingly reliable. The RDS/RBDS standard specifies a display of 8 characters on the radio faceplate. You have to either squeeze what you need in or scroll it. All of the units on the market should support PS scrolling. There are a lot of other RDS features supported by most units, but most car audio headunits don't support them: radiotext, clock, calendar date, alternate frequencies, etc.

I have not used the Inovonics unit but have heard good things about their RDS. I just purchased one of their Mod Monitors and couldn't be happier - half the cost and good performance.
