RDS in Lubbock

Stations that use RDS:
MAGIC 93.7
KFMX 94.5
95.5 - Super Estrella
96.3 KLLL
Hot 97.3
100.3 - Mix
101.1 - Rock 101.1

I know there are stations in lubbock that used to use RDS but do not anymore:
Stars 1043
104.9 The Beat used it briefly.

Something that bothers me about this market is that NONE of the stations scroll the name of the song that is playing. It's puzzling to me since a lot of small markets do this. I know Midland/Odessa does it as well as Bryan/College Station & Waco. Don't people care more about the song they are listening too rather than the station name or the call letters? I feel that if stations aren't going to scroll the name of the song, then using RDS is a waste of time and money. Maybe that is why Stars and 104.9 don't use RDS anymore.

I asked somebody once why we don't scroll names here, and they said it was too much money to add. Then we had a thread about this and everybody said it was no big deal to install the software.

Doesn't matter anyway, because I no longer have a car radio with RDS.
But your right! I went to San Antonio last year and almost every station had scrolling RDS, even JACK FM (which scrolled the 1-800 number along with song titles).

It'd be nice to have, but I'd rather Lubbock stations spend their time on continuing to follow KFMX's lead in just being good at what they do.

In a market like San Antonio...that is expected...as well as Austin. But this is something i'd least expect to see in Midland/Odessa and Bryan/College Station markets. I know for a fact that NONE of the stations in Amarillo or Abilene use RDS...so i guess we are a little bit ahead of them.

My car doesn't have RDS either. I'll only see the song that is playing if there is an HD signal and if they broadcast text...but I do have one of those FM radios for the iPods and that uses RDS.

I've always heard from the powers that be... that its a great idea..... but just not worth the money. However, I have never asked if its a simple thing to do or what. Personally, I think its a cool for a station to have that feature.

But, if you ask an engineer anything.... the answers always... "Can't Do it". Or..... and I love this answer.... (This was an actual answer once)... "Ohhhh.. We can't do that until after March."

*Ok. The one thing you need to know is.... this answer was given in early Fall. Meaning, we would have to wait 6 months to get what we wanted done. However, and this is the best part.... wait for it.... all we wanted was.... a shelf removed. Seriously.

So, needless to say.... the shelf was removed the next day... but not by the engineer.
