Just curious if anyone has experienced the RDS information from one station's frequency showing up on another station's frequency. This is happening here, and I am looking for a plausible explanation before I contact the station who does not use RDS, and tell them their "competition's" RDS is showing up on their frequency!

BTW- These are religious broadcasters.

First, both stations transmitters are located together at the same tower. One is a 100 watt Class A at 90.9 MHz and the other is a 300 watt Class A 107.1.

I thought maybe there was some strange intermod, but I'm not sure. Could it be? (I should state that the 90.9 audio feed arrives via STL, and the 107.9 audio feed is via an Dayton FM receiver composite out, receiving the main station at 89.9 FM about 30 miles away, which does not utilize RDS.)

The only other explanation I would have, is that 90.9 patched their RDS into the 107.9 exciter...I do hope this is not the case.

The tower site is not easily accessed at this time, due to snow. So, a trip up there is out for now...

Any ideas???

The problem is that 107.1, or their main signal at 89.9 do not utilize RDS in any way, shape or form.

But, the 90.9 RDS info is showing up on 107.1. Bizzare, isn't it? ???
 
RDS will pass through a composite receiver quite well--as well as "traditional" translators that up-convert (i.e., "translate") from the IF signal of the internal receiver.

Not sure if that would explain the RDS cross-pollinating the other station's signal --unless you can hear that station's audio on the other station's signal. Then that would explain everything--the off-air receiver for 107.1 is plagued with intermod from the 90.9 signal.
 
does the 90.9 encoder have 107.1 programmed in as an additional frequency? Have you tried other receivers? Some radios such as Toyota will not work 100% correctly with RDS/RBDS.
