RDS

I just got the go ahead to demo a unit, which one? Anyone favor one over the other...Burk, Inovonics', Audemat-Aztec(FB10 or 80). Of course, they want it to have every bell and whistle. Song title, artist, calls, what the jock had for lunch and how they can order form their car...the whole 9 yards...let me know what ya think.

The Audemat FMB80 rocks my world! It has an ethernet jack in back so's you can program it over a network. It also supports title and artist on the "station name" display.

The FMB10 is a stripped down version, still one of the best, IMHO.<P ID="signature">______________

Hi

I use the Italian made AEV-4500 RDS encoder.

It can do song title & artist over BOTH PSN & RT
Features EON, Clock, Program Type, TP (traffic) plus other features I don't understand.
Satellite programmable
Can program up to 50 different lines of PSN
Can program up to 50 different lines of RT
Text/Lines can be programed to display at certain dates & Times
Can program up to 50 different alternatie frequencies (2 blocks of 25 freq) if you're running a FM network or translators.

(PSN - Program Service Name)
(RT - Radio Text)

I must be lucky. I get to fix the flap in the toilet, give the GM a jump every week AND get my car all muddy going to the site.

No one noticed that I changed the station vehicle license plate to "RDSISGR8" :(<P ID="signature">______________

Get the Burk....its an FMB80 in a Burk case. You can send it to Burk if it needs service, the actual FMB80 would have to go back to Europ for service.

Get in touch with Alan Hartle at http://www.rbds.net
He does a turn-key system that has more bells and whistles that your PD can think of. Straight out of an automation system to both an RDS encoder (FMB-80) and also straight to your station website!
He can also do live outdoor billboards. He's also an ex-chief engineer, NOT a management type!!!

To many letters...

I was going over the site last night and again this morning. As far as I can tell, this is just a software, go between. Am I correct in assuming this? (Shut up Sam) And of course the site had to toss another encoder into the mix, Omnia. I wouldn't mind using Omnia seeing how they are just 30 miles north, if this is made in Cleveland. I am, however, going nuts with all these damn initials RBDS has....good god!

The winner is...

Inovonics 71300 will be here next week for demo. Here is why I chose this one.
Looked at the FMB80 from Audemat Aztec but BSW isn't allowed to rep. that but can rep. the FMB10. I was informed that Harris sells the FMB80 but I have been soured on them after a few purchases and I vowed to not buy from them if I can avoid it, and I can avoid it.
Ruled out teh Burk because it is ridiculously priced. $2500 for what is basically an FMB80 in a Burk shell but the FMB80 is $1200.
If anyone cares, I will post an update after we get the Inovonics up and running.
We are about to enter the 1990's....woohoo...LOL

The Audemat-Aztec FMB80 is a good little box. My only gripe is the the documentation. It sucks!
