I have them in all our studios...can't get them to sound like i really want them to sound, but they are close enough. Actually had to change one of our production studio's back to an re-20 and sounds great...
you're right though...you can't use them raw. they must have some sort of processor. they may look pretty being all silver, but the re-20's still have my vote.
