Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

Two observations:

"Guy Wire" is probably working for iBiquity, collecting a salary from them, or is an official of the company. No other engineer in their right mind would continue to promote this flawed technology.

I would be careful if I were Savage - this confrontation is getting more and more ugly as it becomes obvious AM HD won't work. When words don't intimidate and silence, the offending company often resorts to violence.

Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

Very good article, takes a thoughtful reply., although i don't think we can add much except applause.

Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

I have to agree with Bob's assertion that it's time to pull the mask off Guy Wire. In the alternative, it's time for RW to put the character to rest. RW probably won't do that. Their editorial content just fills space between ads.

You have to take anything written by someone using a pseudonym with a grain of salt. (Just like you do here). But when you hide behind the pen name in order to take cheap shots...well that's a different matter entirely. The June 29 RWEE Guy Wire comments are filled with cheap shots and snide remarks about WYSL. Remarks that probably wouldn't have been made if the author was signing his/her name to the article.

Guy Wire says that WYSL was "shoe horned" into the market. What the heck is wrong with that? That's smart thinking. Some call these moves "Spectrum Art."

Looking for editorial objectivity in RW is not worth the time. The publication would be better named "The Oscillator" since they zig zag at a pace that would make a pinball wizard dizzy.

Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

Radio Mag is 100% owned and controlled by Broadcast Electronics which manufactures HD equipment. They're hardly a credible editorial source on HD controversies.

rbruce - "Guy Wire." Same initials as Glynn Walden. Coincidence? I think it's beyond dispute that whoever he is he's got some vested interest in HD. The stupid pseudonym and his intemperate verbal tantrum that prompted my rebuttal, say it all.

As far as violence goes: I dunno, that's pretty dark. iBiquity and The Alliance better hope nothing happens to WYSL in the near future. I'd personally see to it that the Feebs were all over the case. The last thing HD Radio needs is a criminal probe prompted by a "mob hit." I'm paranoid (just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're wrong) but not THAT paranoid.

And stacker: the HD nuts have ragged on the WYSL facility as long as I've spoken out against IBOC. I completely agree with you about "shoehorned" facilities. If you're going to adopt that argument, any radio station employing a directional antenna - AM or FM - is "shoehorned." Look, under the rules - a facility either works or it doesn't. The entire allocation scheme is institutional shoehorning. WYSL with its conventional 4-tower array is far less shoehorned than many examples we could all think of, like short-spaced WCBS-FM/WBEB or the the DA monsters of legend like the old KLIF Dallas, WKNR Detroit or WIBG Philly.

Thanks to all for your kind comments and support. The HD death watch ticks on.

Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

Bob you and I don't know each other, so I just want to state how much I'm impressed with how you've dealt with this issue and how well you write and communicate. And I wouldn't be too worried about any kind of "dark" moment. Going down that road would be a pretty severe action I don't think anyone would risk, no matter how effective you are with your position. If I was still in the business I'd love to work with you. Fortunately these days I'm more concerned with hitting the fairway than propagation.

Re: Another Round in Savage Versus Guy Wire

The entire allocation scheme is institutional shoehorning.

You better believe it! It's true from AM and FM's both. The only flack comes from those who didn't think of it first.
