Wow...you have absolutely no proof of what you're saying - and your biggest problem is that you think every market is similar to New York, and it's not

Huh? You think every market is like LA. Since KROQ is a hit in LA, it will therefore be a hit in Atlanta.

No, Alternative/AAA is a hit in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Houston, Minneapolis, San Diego, Portland, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, and a whole lot of other cities

And lol at the last two sentences of your post - you seem to have an awful lot of inside information about CBS ;) And from the success of Alternative/AAA stations nationwide, many of which are owned by Clear Channel, it's clear that CBS doesn't have a clue

Well, then why doesn't CC launch one in Atlanta, since they're so successful with it? Tell me, why would CC rather deal with having Wild and Power than launch an alternative in ATLANTA? Oh, and on the previous issue, YOU said that KTBZ and WRFF are massive billers, so it's YOUR job to prove it.

And what BigA said is hardly insider information, it's common sense if you have even a basic knowledge of how the business works. Since he's spent a lot of time in the business, he should know this.

Success? Define that. Wait, don't.

PLEASE stop lumping Alternative & AAA together. They are distinct formats.

Big A knows the business and the facts. He is not particularly after Alternative, or biased towards CBS. Since when is information that can be found on CBS's website "insider information?" Everything BUT the last two sentences in TheBigA's post you're referring to explains KROQ billing situation perfectly. At a certain point, you have to take personal preference/emotion out of things and look at the facts. I'm FOR Alternative, but trying to be logical here. Many logical explanations have been made about KROQ's billing. BTW, there are way more than 4 morning shows in LA...

So now the only signals that have any potential of going Alternative are ruled out because the alleged "wealthy" Alt. demographic (I know plenty of people that listen to Alternative, and they're far from "wealthy", myself included) won't put up with it - what's the point of this discussion, then? It seems pretty obvious to me that the format is done in Atlanta. AAA definitely is, that format is a rarity from a corporate company - I don't know why that format keeps getting compared with Alt.

Many of these markets that are being mentioned (San Francisco, Portland, Minneapolis, Denver, Boston, DC, etc) are more "progressive" markets than Atlanta, so of course the format may bill well - Atlanta's seen a lot of growth, but it's no Minneapolis or San Francisco. Houston might be most comparable, but the Alternative there is the only game in town, so if you want rock, there's not much choice. Having a certain format doesn't necessarily mean it's doing well or is a success. Is Alternative popular? Yeah, in a lot of markets. I think Alternative and Classic Hits have a lot of similarities in Atlanta. 92.9's ratings keep being brought up, yeah, they were higher, but they weren't great and hovered around a 2 share for quite a while towards the end, and no proof has been made that they bill well, just assumptions made around here.

I agree, please stop lumping AAA and Alternative together unless you want me to start lumping AC with CHR stations and Urban with Urban AC.
