RE: AUGUSTA'S NEW TOP-40, "HD-98.3"

Anybody know when/if "HD 98.3" (WHHD) Augusta may get a little more on-air
personallity such or possibly AT-40, Rick Dees, etc. Would love to hear
OPEN HOUSE PARTY back on Saturday nights in Augusta again.....some clubmix shows.....anything? It still sounds very automated. It's like whatever system
that they use to run the music just runs any song no matter what time of day it is. (Example: At 7:30am during morning drive times you'll here some the hardest rap/hip hop on Top-40 then, on like a Saturday night at 11:15pm I'll hear a light-adult Goo Goo Dolls song and some slow jams all back to back??

Did I explain that right?

Just sounds like they just let the computer play whatever song no matter what the listeners are doing at that time....

Any thoughts?

ok, i admit i may be reading into this a bit more than i should. but i really enjoyed hearing an imaging promo they run that has a female caller say how happy she is to find them because she has been listening to "an internet station from atlanta."

i am pretty sure that's what the promo said, and not "a station from atlanta on the internet," which could have been an FM station.

yeah, maybe i'm drawing for straws here, but it sure sounded like the caller had been tuned to my internet station. probably a high placement in google helps, search for atlanta internet radio and i'm #1.

sorry for the thread hijack. yeah, it did seem that HD 98.3 was a little rough around the edges to me, too. but it's sure great to have CHR back in the CSRA.

and speaking of CSRA, isn't that the dumbest name for an area ever? does any listener know (or care) what it stands for (central savannah river area, right?) does anybody call it anything else (georgialina maybe? i still get a kick out of hearing WHAS in louisville give the weather in "kentuckiana.")

Here is some slang for some Georgia cities that you'd here on an Urban or Rhythmic station in that area.

Atlanta: Da ATL or Da A-Town
Augusta: Da AUG
Savannah: Da SAV
Columbus: C-Town
Macon: MacTown
Albany: Da ALB
Athens: Da ATH
Valdosta: V-Town

Florence: flo town
HeY deal with it or move Augusta regardless is a pretty nice town compared to living in the A-T-L! crime rate is lower

Well if you ever listened to an Urban station or been in an Urban community in any of the cities listed you'd here it. Since you can't relate I suggest you fall back!

*cough* "New" *cough* morning show starts Monday (but you might be disappointed).

Was listening this afternoon and heard promos for Kidd Kraddick, so that will be the morning show. And no, I'm not "kidding" you (pardon the pun). :>)

Frankly, I'm disappointed in HD-98.3. I would had thought that Beasley had studyed the mistakes that Y-105 had made in it's final years and had used that knowledge to their advantage when building the station, but apparently they've not...or won't. The station as it stands right now is nothing more than a glorified MP3 player and you might as well think that the handle HD stands for "Highly Dull". The station is all sizzle, but no steak.

Oh, here's one interesting tidbit: There was a promo where a woman had commented that she liked the station, but where were the DJs? Take note, Beasley (and Clear Channel, Cumulus, etc.)...some people actually DO notice!

And now, an opposing editorial....

I'd beg to differ! Augusta is a dump! The crime rate is steady gotten worse over the last 10-15 years as many wealthy and upper middle class people are leaving the city for the suburbs, leaving the lower middle class and the poor to deal with the gangs that are popping up. Remember what happened to Regency Mall about 12 years ago? Well, Augusta Mall is well on their way to a similer fate! Not to mention that there's tons of garbage strewn all over the side of the streets and roads that makes it look more like a dump than a throughfare. The only time that the city (or Richmond County) botters picking it up is around Masters time, the rest of the year, it just stays there. The city goverment is made up of a bunch of grandstanding buffoons that waste the taxpayer's time bitching and moaning with one another and are very well on their way to bankrupting the city financially (estimated by 2018 the way that it's going now).

And I'm only scratching the surface here.....

What happened to Mark Summers?

I think I read somewhere else on this board that he moved to the sales department.

I'm also (sadly) hearing talks about Kidd Kraddick.

Thank you Ron! I sorely miss the "good old days" of you, Dana Lynn, and Mark with his "cast of characters" (Rainbow Johnson, Lake, etc.)

Ditto, that. Loved listening to Mark & Dana Lynn before workiing there, and it just broke my heart when CC flipped 'ZNY to country, abandoning DECADES of heritage pop/top 40 status for that market.

it's no secret that I'd love to get back that way, but it's apparently just not in the cards. Just a note to those that wonder.

Maybe one day... in the meanwhile I'll stay where I am, at a locally-owned pop/Top 40, working for and with great people, pulling in the numbers the bosses love to get from every ratings period, doing what I learned to do while in Mobile, Augusta and before in Greenville, SC... being live, local and present in the community.

Whenever somebody in the market there sees the potential in that, I'll be around. :)

Augusta will always be my first love.
