Incidentally, Matthews was on vacation the last time Obama delivered a primetime address (a.k.a. the infamous "I think the Cambridge police acted stupidly, Lynn" address). With that in mind, it makes me wonder if he chooses to be away on the occasion of such events, given that he (as well as Keith Olbermann) were relieved of debate-hosting duties late last year after being a little too rowdy on-air.

No conspiracy. Per TVNewser: "MSNBC spokesperson Jeremy Gaines tells TVNewser Matthews had some follow-up tests Tuesday related to his diabetes. "He's going to take the rest of the week off to rest, but he's feeling fine and will be back on Monday," says Gaines."
