Re: Has WBEN Gone Full-on Wingnut?
Seems to me the next decision WBEN will need to make concerns its lineup of nationally syndicated programs.
Limbaugh's troubles are well known. In the largest markets, have come his largest declines in ratings and revenue. Cunmulus, which carries him in two of his (and the country's) biggest markets, has been especially outspoken. Lew Dickey says Limbaugh is now costing him millions of dollars every month compared to what he could bring in with even a lower-rated (but more advertiser-accepted) alternative. Now it should be remembered that Dickey now HAS an alternative on the market in Mike Huckabee...and it's equally clear that he will go with Huckabee in markets like NYC and Chicago as soon as his contractual committment to Limbaugh is through.Limbaugh's syndicator (Clear Channel's Premiere Networks division) is also clearly convinced Cumulus will pull Limbaugh off WABC, along with their other syndicated product, or else why would they have spent over $30 million tp buy WOR as an alternative for NYC carrioage?
Is Entercom thinking the same thing as Cumulus, and will Limbaugh be dumped in markets like Buffalo (where he's been on almost two decades) or Boston (where he returned more recently)? You'd have to be privy to their total ratings and revenue numbers beyond the published 12+ audience stats to know. But you have to believe they're all aware of what's going on in other Eastern and Midwestern markets...
