Am I the only one who finds Michael Graham unlistenable?
His new slot 10-12 AM on 96.9 does not fit his style of talk radio.
He was supposed to have been a stand-up comic...well, I can see why he isn't do that anymore.

Slotted after Imus and Barnicle and coming just before Egan and Braude he just doesn't fit in. His knee jerk right-wing claptrap comes off like some radio evangelical but without a Bible or a snake. I find that if I am listening to talk at all during that period I am changing the station to listen to Todd Feinberg on WRKO. He is no prize either, but he has a better feel for the community than does Graham as in "Crackers".

Graham runs his show as if he were running a national syndicated show such as O'Reilly et al but it just doesn't work.

IMHO it would have been better for Greater Media to take Scott Alan Miller from WRKO now that he is on his way out. Say what you will about Scotto [ good and bad ] he has grasped a real feel for the area in a very short time and has acquire an institutional if not historical memory of events the preceded his arrival into Boston. I don't think it is fair to judge Scotto from a morning drive time gig. It has to be the hardest day part to program and Entercom has made so many changes in that format since SAM has been there that it would have been impossible for anyone to succeed. Watch Felon Finneran fade fast in that time slot.

So, I think the ratings will show that Michael Graham is a disaster in mid-morning. He is a pothole in TKK's programming which listeners will avoid at all costs.

Re: Michael Graham

Tom Ashbrook's "On Point" on WBUR was great in the 10:00 to 11:00 am hour with the NY Times's Tom Friedman as guest.

Re: Michael Graham

I actually like Graham. As far as I'm concerned, he's the best host on TKK.

Unlike a lot of talk hosts, he seems like he really cares about what he's doing and is not just in it for the money.

Also, even if you don't like his style, you've got to at least respect him for standing up for his principles. When he was at WBAL, he got fired for refusing to cave-in and apologize for something that he said on his show. How many guys in this industry would have the integrity to loose their job for something they believe in?

As far as I'm concerned we need more guys like Graham doing talk radio. WTKK is lucky to have him.

Does anyone happen to know what his 25-54 ratings are? Say, compared to Scotto, or the rest of the station. That might answer the question.

Re: Michael Graham

I don't mind the guy but the one thing that drives me NUTS is he repeats that damn phone number over and over again at almost every opportunity. It just makes him sound as though he isn't getting any calls and is deperate to get someone on the line.

Re: Michael Graham

Has anyone ever seen any actual proof that he was a paid stand-up comic? He's not very funny. Sounds more like one of those actors that does an open-mic night and then claims to be a stand-up on their resume. ::)

I wholeheartedly agree, we know what station we're listening to, and we don't care to call in!

There's reason why he's not doing stand-up anymore. He's not funny.

Why don't they just can Graham and run Laura Ingraham live from 10 to Noon, push O'Reilly to 10pm-Mid and have a new local talk show from 7 to 10pm?

........anything else

First post here but I have been a listener of WTKK a long time. I moved here to Boston at the end of 2000 and remained till the end of 2003. Somewhere along the way I discovered TKK and became addicted. Jay's afternoon show was as good as it gets for me. I missed the station after moving away.

I returned at the end of 2005 to find things changed. Jay was with Westwood and this Graham knucklehead was new. Was very excited when they said Jay was returning to local but now that he's back (half the time he's supposed to be) I'm really disappointed. He was always a showboat but he's wayyyy overboard these days. The talk centers more on him, his new house and his life than real topics. I have taken a break from him.

As for Michael Graham - waste of air time. I really can't believe that he's been on this long in this town.

Re: Michael Graham

PS - Because I had enjoyed the station so much in the past I tried to email the programming people more than a few times with respectful criticism. Paula O'connor I think it was? Also tried another name there at the station. Never got the slightest of acknowledgment that my opinion was even read much less mattered.

I agree, and the WRKO listeners seem to like him too.... I'd still like to see him paired with a liberal at least some of the time.

Re: Michael Graham

Herald said Graham tried to go to WRKO recently.

Re: Michael Graham

depietro was a million times better than both of them. I miss his show. Always entertaining, funny, and lots of yelling(which I like).
I think they are boring. You may not like JD, but he was never dull.....

Well, DePetro lost 50% of his audience last fall while Carr lost 11% and Feinburg lost 17%. Listeners frequently tell Feinburg they like how he treats both callers and guests. Maybe the silent majority love the yelling, but I have never heard anyone tell Feinburg he should yell at people.

Re: Michael Graham

where can I find(see) those numbers? JD was gone by the first week of November. So the fall numbers for Nov., Dec. are his?

Sorry, I wasn't clear: it was the change from spring to summer published in the fall.

Posted 11/17/2006 in the Boston Herald:

WRKO’s current ratings aren’t helping the station.

In the key category of 25-to-54-year-olds, DePetro’s share dropped 50 percent, from a 2.2 in the spring to a 1.1 in the summer, according to numbers provided to the Herald.

In the same category, ‘‘Boston This Morning” dropped 68 percent; ‘‘The Scott Allen Miller Show” dropped 18 percent; Rush Limbaugh fell 42 percent; Herald columnist Howie Carr fell 11 percent; Todd Feinburg fell 17 percent; Michael Savage dropped 69 percent and ‘‘Coast to Coast” fell 26 percent.

Re: Michael Graham

>>Herald said Graham tried to go to WRKO recently.

Not sure how long Graham's contract is for (but of course if the ratings suffer he could be gone before you
know it)--I'm sure somewhere online there's an article about when WTKK hired him and it would say how
long his contract is for (it may have been 2 years...)

--quick search: Graham was signed (and started a daily show) by WTKK in Nov. of '05 (the Severin nighttime
show started in Jan of 06). THOUGHT I read somewhere it was a 2 yr deal.

WRKO tried to get Eagan and Braude, I read somewhere.

Yes, it was reported in the Herald article announcing they were going to three hours, but as shotgunannie pointed out, the source appeared to be Eagan and Braude themselves; it hasn't been confirmed elsewhere that I am aware of.

Re: Michael Graham

Ms. Kahn herself said she wanted Eagan & Braude in the Globe and Herald.
