Hunh?
It's just occurred to me -- living in Dallas, your paradigm of Christian AC is defined by KLTY alone. In reality, Christian AC is
much more upbeat and "listenable" than you perceive.
In fact, of the 45 Christian AC stations in the R&R/Mediabase panel (excluding Cox's Tulsa due to its newness, sign-on mode, and only partial-year data),
38 played the song in 2005...even (though not since September) KLTY!
That's 84.4% touching it, so to speak.
> But - they followed it by some AWFUL clunkers.
I was able to determine that the "AWFUL clunkers" were Ginny Owens' "If You Want Me To," SCC's "Fingerprints Of God," DC Talk's "My Will," Mercy Me's "Word Of God Speak," and Tomlin's "Famous One."
"Clunkers?" Hardly!
Ok, the sweep is a
little draggy, but "Fingerprints" and a stopset between DCT and Mercy Me make it not so bad. It appears to be poor scheduling rather than an indictment of the library -- the first 40 minutes of the hour were all upbeat! I looked at the surrounding hours and discovered that there were only a couple of potential artist separation problems, so a rather minor rearrangement of or swap in the hour would have balanced it much better and done away with that somewhat draggy section.

Nineteen year-olds go for thirty year-old music???? News to me!
Next, you'll be telling me they list Buicks and Oldsmobiles as their first preferences for cars!
> WHY can't Christian stations get the mix decent?
Subjective.
> Get our hopes up with a real good song,...
Subjective.
> ...then follow it by not one, but two slow boring clunkers?
Subjective.
