? Re: Non-cover Dance Hits at Top 40

Prior to Cascada, what was the last non-Madonna, non-cover big dance hit at CHR radio? I'm thinking Eiffel 65 "Blue" or Alice Deejay "Better off Alone" back in 2000, but there has to have been something more recent than that. Was there?

"Something" by Lasgo did reasonably well, didn't it? I know that the biggest Top 40 station in the world, Z100 NY,STILL plays it.

Uh Daniel Bedingfield "Gotta Get Through This"

did Roc Project "Never" make it. I know it was widely played
Edited by chrisorlando on 12/02/05 10:32 PM.

"Never" was a pretty big success on dance radio, I don't think it fared well enough at CHR to crack the top 40 though.

Not the biggest Top 40 station by any means... I'd imagine BBC Radio 1 would take that prize, possibly, and stations in most large cities probably serve a much bigger audience than Z100. Too many New Yorkers listen to rap, light music, and older music.

Don't Forget Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"

Someone mentioned some hits from the year 2000 and 1999 - don't forget Sonique's "It Feels So Good".

As for Z-100, they are the most listened to station in America, and I think that's what the prior poster meant.
BBC Radio 1, NRJ Radio France, or Radio Deejay Italy, all have a cume much higher then that of WHTZ, but their coverage area spans entire countries.

Z-100 on the other hand, while it may not necessarily be at the top of New York's ratings, cume-wise it's almost always been the most listened to station. The only time that might have not been the case was back in 96 when KTU first came back on the dial and scored monstrous ratings, and cumed really well with both the 18-34 and 25-54 demos.

Speaking of CHR stations, I remember "Never" was on brainwash rotation on Philly's Q102 during the summer 2003. Unfortunately they haven't given a real dance track major airplay since then (D.H.T.'s ballad version of "Listen To Your Heart" DOES NOT count). "Past Tense" indeed. :(

Thought of another two.

Kylie Minogue "Can't Get You Outta My Head" and "Love at First Sight". Both reached 7 and 23 respectively on the Hot 100 in US
Edited by chrisorlando on 12/04/05 02:48 AM.

Forgot to mention they have also played Lucas Prata "Let's Get it On" though that was in low rotation, and are also now playing Lucas Prata's "And she Said"

*This may NOT Be intentional, but
> DHT "Listen to Your Heart" (dance version)
-Is a cover.
Now, granted, alot of "vintage" classic-italian, may be
covers, but the 1989 well known hit by roxette "Listen..."
still gets airplay on some a/c stations..soo this one should
be removed from your list...Just beacuse "you didnt know" doesn't
make it any less of a cover....

*thought of another *
