EMMIS Alternative WKQX (Q101)/CHICAGO APD/MD JACENT JACKSON exits amicably after two years with the station. JACENT is exploring his next challenge. Prior to Q101, he was PD at JOURNAL Alternative KQXR/BOISE, ID. Reach out to JACENT at (773) 318-6426 or [email protected].
Hello Grin Reaper!

<font color=3333ff>One of my bosses where I used to work at, we talked about radio at one point... He said he used to love the Zone but when it went to Oldies he flipped to 95 Will Rock. I said what about Q101 and he said, nah that whole "shuffle thing" it's just not working.

Why not have Q101 become active rock like the Zone? Just a idea........

And what exactly would be accomplished by doing that?

I tend to disagree. I find more people listening to q101 now, because they can hear a wide variety of songs. Not like Jack or 9FM, but more towards the genre of alternative rock. I like it. Plus I really enjoy the jocks.

It would be cool, like a Clear Channel move. Less listeners, less billing! Yeah, let's wreck a profitable billing station so we can get half of everything, kind of like a half off sale. Less is better. Whew! Good to know they all went to college. It's so important to be an eductated IDIOT or a license to be stupid.

I agree, the ratings would probably be about the same or less in the mid 1's, but Active Rock billing would probably be half of Alternative billing. The Zone just did barely over 8mil. I think Q 101 bills close to double that, if not double probably in the 12-14 mil range.

Best of luck to Jacent. I know the next station to hire him will benefit.

When Jacent was PD at The X in Boise, he watched over a kid named Kallao. When I met Kallao at Energy 88.7 WLUW Chicago, he was a sixteen year old with the word EAGER printed all over his forehead. Now Kallao is working in San Diego, and he's always had nothing but the greatest things to say about Jacent.

For once I will agree with all of you active rock haters....

Your right!!! Active Rock in Chicago will have a tough time. The number on reason it will have a tough time is because the Chicago Radio GMs, PDs and companies have screwed over the rockers so much through the years. Thus, the rockers are all listening to Sirius Octane 20, Sirius Hard Attack 27, Sirius Hair Nation 23, Sirius Buzzsaw 19, XM 41 Boneyard, and XM Squizz!!!!!

With Sirius and XM giving me the best active rock, hard rock, metal, hair metal, classic rock etc etc....I could care less if a real rock station ever comes back to Chicago. The only thing I'll listen to Chicago radio for is sports talk and news.

I agree with you 100%
I really have no use for Chicago radio since I have satellite at home and in the car.

I have Sirius but I feel the sound quality is marginal at best. Anyway, with the many options like a stash of 192k and above MP3's, and a few of the higher-bitrate Internet streams, it'll be tough to lure Active Rock listeners back to FM.

So there aren't that many rockers, then, based on the still-small percentage of the population using satellite...

I don't have XM or Sirius (hey, who can afford it on a small-market TV salary!) so when I'm in Chicago I either listen to my iPod, CDs or (if I can get it) 95 Will Rock. Hell, was in the car with my girlfriend a couple weeks ago and she put Q101 on and was like "WTF is this? On Q101?" I forget the song but it was something that really didn't belong on the station but that they're playing because they're on "shuffle".

Add to that the number of rock internet stations and yeah... Who the hell cares anymore? I think the only thing that could save a rock station in Chicago is if they had the Rebel Radio guys programming it.

There is no way I would go back to an FM rock station.
I don't want to hear commercials again, I don't want to hear classic rock mixed in and I don't trust these companies anymore.
Rock fans have been jerked around so much in Chicago its not even funny.
They can keep their Jack formats and their shuffle formats and stick them where the sun don't shine!
